INTERESTING TWINS First Polar Hears Ever Born In the United States Bridgeport Conn Dec 10The first polar bears ever born in the United I States made their appearance yesterday I yester-day in the winter quarters of the Bar num Bailey circus They are twins and the double event is onsidered of importance by the show men as under the best natural conditions only two cubs are ever seen at one time in the care of a shebear of this variety in J the Arctic regions I Besides being the first white bears ever born here it is believed they are the first ever born in captivity The I cubs are about the size of shepherd dogs weighing about 47 pounds each The parents were prepared by Mr I Bailey last August and were transferred trans-ferred to Bridgeport where tile she I bear had a compartment of her own It was considered too hazardous under I hazarpous the circumstances to take her traveling travel-ing with the show Since the birth of the cubs the mother suspects every moving object to be an enemy and snaps and growls at everybody every-body approaching the cage In her present state she is very dangerous Polar bears cost 1000 each so that the advent of these two little ones means quite a sum gained
