Show THIS IS NOT A TRUST Merely an Amalgamation of Interests Inter-ests to Prevent Ruinous Competition Compe-tition New York Dec 10Conferences of the principal manufacturers of white paper used by newspapers have been held in this city for more than a week past to consider the formation of a general stock company to handle the product of the mills and to act as the general agent of the allied concerns con-cerns These negotiations culminated today in the practical agreement of all concerned to pool interests and to deal with consumers only through a general agency which IB to be established estab-lished in this city The plan involves the formation of a national association associa-tion capitalized at a moderate amount which is to control the product of all the mills By this arrangement the manufacturers expect to reduce running run-ning expenses to reorganize the trade and to promote friendlier relations between be-tween all concerned They expressly deny that prices will be advanced as a result of the proposed agreement but contend that they are obliged to follow fol-low the example of other men direct I ing other great industries and cooperate co-operate to prevent ruinous competition compet tion Thirty companies are interested in the movement They are said to control con-trol the industry in this country |
