is splendidly illustrated trated in the operation of the Chloride Point mine on Lion hill Ophir dis trct A year ago when a representative of tins paper visited this noted producer I of highgrade ore the developments I comprised 700 feet of tunnel work in which but little sloping had been done but Sunday and the day following I when the visit was repeated i would j F 1lt 1 r t V I 1r4N t > r f r o r 12 1ZI1 Z i r f r re J < r < J i I i TNE NEW CHLORIDE POINT MThL be difficult almost to believe that it a8dit eSI I I was the same mine so extensive had been the improvements and so mammoth mam-moth were the bodies of milling and shipping ore blocked out and diclosed in the property the main tunnel haying hay-ing been pushed in a distance of 1150 feet in face of which magnificent zones of low and high grade mineral i were to be seen j 1 In fact the Chloride Point is a different differ-ent propsition entirely today from what l if was a year ago and not only has the i tunnel been pushed further into the I hill and into larger bcdies of ore but j I i other developments have been driven in various directions until now three levels have been established in the i I mine in the neighborhood of the face i of the tunnel these levels being one above the other disclosing a solid body I of ore all of 42 feet thick while crosscuts cross-cuts have e 2nf run both ways from 1 i I these workings all the way in ore I I much of which is a shipping product j i and from which consignments of high I grade rock are almost daily being made while large quantities thousands I thous-ands of tons of a good grade of milling i ore are left standing and untouched i until such time a i can be broken I down and run into the mill now rapidly rapid-ly approaching completion and this I mineral 1 being very silicious in Its character I char-acter and free from base and deleterious delete-rious substances can be leached admirably ad-mirably and at a high percentage of I > saving the average values being in I the neighborhood of 35 ounces silver i and 375 in gold to the ton while the I shipping ore will run about 125 ounces I Silver and 375 in gold to the ton i By actual measurements the tle mammoth mam-moth body of mineral now disclosed in the Chloride Point extends back from the face of the tunnel for a distance of 400 feet I has been crosscut in several sev-eral places for over 6 feet and the average thickness of the zone is over 12 feet while the indications are that as progress is made in the extension j di i of the workings into the et o I gains in the size of the body of ore i will he noted as well as incteased values val-ues and as for what is below there is I einimjlv no limit to the deposit a the latest strike chronicled in the mine I was made a few days ago in the west drift from the bottom of a winze from the tunnel level where a few inches I below what was supposed to be the foot I wall of the vein a line showing of = l ng f highgrade chloride and bromide ore was disclosed Tht last 100 feet of work back from the lace of the tunnel shows an ore zone 30 feet thick in which occur fine bodies of good shipping ore and George Clark the effici nt superintendent under un-der whose direction the mine is now able to make such a splendid showing estimates that he has all of 30000 tons of ore blocked out ready for extraction while on the dump ready to be shot down into the ore bin at the mill there rE 500 tons of good milling mineral Mr Clark Is working a force of 19 men in the development and operation of the property and with these he is i opening up new ore bodies daily besides i be-sides keeping up regular shipments of one or two carloads weekly of high grade ore At the mine the company has erected el jo eb td ed a commodious boarding hote and comfortable lodgings so that the men are well cared for and as an excellent table is set all is harmony and satisfactory I satis-factory work is accomplished THE CHLORIDE POINT MILL I The new mill for the Chloride Point mine is rapidly nearing completion and I It is expected If electrical power i furnished fur-nished in time that the plant will be running soon after the first of the I month At any rate the mill will be ready by that time and an inspection I of this plaint is sufficient to satisfy the I most critical that this is or will be one of the most complete and perfect reduction re-duction works erected in this or any I P other country aJ This mill is located down the hill j 4 from the mine about 250 feet from the mouth of the tunnel the connecting I link being a well built double track j i tramway the idea being for the loaded car to run by gravity to the ore bin I at the top of the mill thus drawing I the empty car to the dump I Automatically the ore will be dumped 1 into the bin from where it will run through a Gates crusher then through I I a set of economic rolls then over a I I i = L b r I screen another set of rolls then the screen again when after being sub 1 mitted once again to another set of rolls it finds Its way to the pulp bin I from where it is run into cars aId emptied into the leaching tanks in the I I leaching room everything being done j I automatically ty gravity J The mill construction ha been in charge of Will Ford the successful I millwright and he has reason so far to be proud of his handiwork The plant Js a model of convenience and the leaching room especially commends itself i it-self to men familiar with ore reduction reduc-tion This room is 212 feet in length I inside measurement and 26 feet wide giving room for ten steel tanks with a capacity of holding 100 tons of ore each Above the leaching room are the solution I solu-tion tanks and still higher up are the precipitation boxes which are most conveniently arranged the solution after I af-ter being drawn from the leaching tanks being pumped up to the boxes from where it flows back to the solution I solu-tion tanks to be restandardized The leaching tanks are equipped with Professor Mitchells device for the I quick discharge or unloading of the pulp after extraction ha taken place I and the whole plant Is so arranged that a saving of time and labor is made at every turn r From Mr Gill S Peyton who will have charge of the extraction at the start i is learned that a saving of practically all of the gold values is anticipated i an-ticipated while the recovery of silver will doubtless run up to 65 or 70 percent per-cent as Chloride Point ores yield read J fly to the cyanide process of reduction The company owns its own water 1 system and i has been demonstrated that the supply will be more than sufficient for all necessary purposes i THE NORTHERN LIGHT TheHeralds representative also made a visit of Inspection to the Northern Light mine and mill ore the north end of the same hill and his advice would be that others follow his example and for themselves examine the underground un-derground workings of this old bonanza bo-nanza which has acquired fame in the past as a heavy producer of high grade mineral II I I Just at this time right after the rapid I decline in Northern Light stock and the I levy of a 10cent assessment it might j 1 not be deemed good taste to dwell at length upon the showing in the mine j and the truth even if half told would I hardly be believed and yet it is a fact that the showing today in this famous I I fa-mous old mine is much better than it was a year ago and it is needless to I say that the work that has been done in its development during the past 12 months has added greatly to its value The 800 feet of tunnel for instance known as the Woodruff tunnel with its II 65 feet of an incline upraise has brought the property into speedy and saving touch with the mill so that the ore almost finds its way to the bin at the mill by gravity and this tunnel and upraise connect with the lower lev els of the mine from which drifts and crosscuts are being run into large bodies bod-ies of excellent milling ore while in one or two places rich shipping stuff is being taken out for the market A short distance from the top of the incline in-cline the Colter drift is being run in which fine ore is exposed and from which sinking and upraising on good milling rock will help suppy the tonnage ton-nage required at the mill In the south drift which is in virgin ground te ore zone is 22 feet thick and scattered through it is high grade chlorides and lead carbonates and in taking ore from this drift i will be necessary to rur it over a screen before be-fore conveying on to the mill the fine stuff to be sacked and shipped and it is estimated that the shipments will be I quite regular in the near future One of the sights in the mine however how-ever is the old McQueen stope from which McQueen and Clark took out thousands of dollars in highgrade ore a number of years ago in doing which they ° ft mammoth bodies of a good grade of milling ore exposed This stope has just been exposed and broken into by the lower workings and it now shows up larger than ever before I be-fore the thickness of the ore body being be-ing a of 75 feet and while the uninitiated I unin-itiated would say that there were 20000 tons of mineral disclosed alone it Is dead safe to say that all of 5000 tons i are ir1 sight at this point the great j bulk of which will carry average val I j ues of 43 ounces silver and 4 in gold Ito I ho j to the ton i In the Kelly stope in another part I of the mine the full face of the works is in a body of ore which will carry average values of I ounces silver and I 480 in gold to the ton At th2 mill the bin is full of good stuff and most of the tanks are charged I lfet I ed with i pulp the only difficulty now standing in the way of successful operation I oper-ation being that the pipe line is frozen up but Superintendent Frank HInes of the mine states that as soon as the i mi begins to grind again he can begin I be-gin at once to furnish 70 tons of mill ing ore daily while within a week this output can be increased to 125 or even to 1EO As to extraction Superintendent Hen drie who has charge of this department I depart-ment states ahi the last tanks of I I pulp emptied he made a recovery of 98 I I per cent of the gold values and 63 percent i per-cent of the silver contents of the ore 1 and he is satisfied that he can maintain this extraction from this time on At Mercur the west dip and at Sunshine Sun-shine difficulty Is also reported with I frozen pipes but i cannot be long now before gentle spring will remove this obstacle to successful operation in both I mining and milling In those localities MINING STOCKS INACTIVE Te GeyserMarion Rather Weak 1With Northern Light Steady The mining share market was rather tame yesterday and but little business was transacted on the floor of the mmhg mm-hg exchange the general inclination of leading l securities being downward ytoth no assignable reason with the e tepllon that at the present time nearly l securities are depressed j In the listed stocks nothing was done mtil GeyserMarion was reached and while dealings in this stock were not at all heavy It was rather slumpy and weak Mercur was also weak in the bidding and closed at8 with offerings at S820 Mammoth failed to show up any better and was slow at the quota h M I I tions given below Northern Light recorded I re-corded gains and was strongly in evl dehce in bidding at 91 cents which I was a advance over the figures of the day before Chloride Point was a favorite In the unlisted securities and while but
