Show L 40 tV kte r ATIONAl MfH Great Aggregation of Crack Riders at Philadelphia LARGE LIST OF ENTRIES SOME OF TH PROFESSIONALS TVHO WILL ATTEND r Brooklyn JocKey Club Announces the Stakes For the Autumn Meeting of 88 New York Yacht Races This Week Promise Exciting Sport Pugilistic Carnival at San Francisco Philadelphia Aug 1The 18th annual an-nual meet of the League of American I Wheelmen forwhich preparations have been going on for over three months will be held in this city during the coming week and the largest influx of out of town wheelmen ever attending a national meet is expected An unusually un-usually large number of entries professional pro-fessional and amateur have been made I for the two days of racing Friday and I Saturday and the crack riders from I all parts of the country have entered in their respective classes I The meet is being managed by the I Associated Cycling clubs of Philadelphia Philadel-phia an organization composed of 20 of the leading cycling clubs of the city Under the direction of an executive I committee the various details have finally fin-ally been completed and all is in readiness j 1 read-iness for what promises to be the most j II successful race meet in the history of the L A W On Tuesday the Pennsylvania I j Penn-sylvania division of the league will hold I a business meeting after which the national na-tional meeting headquarters will be opened for registration and issuing of I credentials All of Wednesday and Thursday will be given to the tours and runs and the visiting wheelmen will be taken to every point of interest I in and about the city Wednesday night there will be an all night I I smoker at the national headquarters headquar-ters and a fete at Belmont mansion in West Fairmount park On both these nights as on the remaining days there will be open house in all the clubs of the city The races will be held on Friday and I I Saturday at Willow Grove track This I is three laps to the mile and is constructed con-structed of board The preliminaries I will be run off in the morning and the finals in the afternoon The onemile j I professional championship will be decided I de-cided on Friday and on Saturday the big race for 5500 will be contested by the stars of the professional ranks I The amateur championship also promises some bitter struggles between representatives of the various stars I The entries closed last night for all events and among some of the 311 out of town professionals entered are I the following I H R Stenson Dayton O Teddy I Goodman New York Major Taylor Cambridgeport Mass Fred Titus New York W L Brecker Indianapolis last years fivemile champion Howard P Mosher Boston Watson Coleman Boston Fred Loughead Sarnia Ont J W Judge New York Tom Cooper Detroit Mich Frank Jenny Utica Homer Fairman Chicago J W Parsons Par-sons Australia W W Hamilton Denver Den-ver Walter Sanger Milwaukee J C Tinkhorn Grand Rapids and many others The prominent amateurs in all parts of the country have also entered for the two days racing The veterans of the L A W will have a meeting on Saturday night which will be followed fol-lowed by a banquet OnSunday morning morn-Ing the meet will close with an excursion excur-sion to Atlantic City and a large contingent con-tingent will make the run on bicycles I |
