Show THE IMREY1llRNEEE fURJR PROSECUTOR HALL DOES NOT BELIEVE WOODS STORY His Account of the Crime and the Prosecution of Idrs Cunningham No Dentists Tool There New York Aug 2Former district attorney Okey Hall who conducted the prosecution of Mrs Emma Cunningham Cunning-ham for the murder of Dr Harvev Burdell on the night of Jan 30 1857 does not believe the story told in Chicago Chi-cago by William F Wood of Mrs Cun ninghams confession Mr Hall said I visited the scene of the murder at 10 oclock on the nIght the body was discoered and made a careful examination The apnearances indicated that Dr Burden had been sitting at his desk Some unfinished writing was found He had been stabbed in the back and had started for the door of the room where his body WA discovered There was some blood on the floor near the chair and a snurt of blood on the door and wall This had evidently come from the mortal mor-tal wound which severed the jujrlar vein and the position of the spray of blood showed that it must have been struck by a lefthanded person while he was on his feet There was no there any dentists tools there His there anv dentists tools there His office was on Broadway There was no stab wound in his hear All the wounds were from behind be-hind showing that he had never faced his assailant They were such blows as a woman might have struck and we proved that Mrs Cunningham was left handed Eckel proved a complete alibi before the coroner The story says that Mrs Cunningham Cunning-ham came back from California to confess After she was acquitted of the murder she was locked up on the charge of bringing forward a false heir to Dr Burdells estate Then she had to remain a year here to begin proceedings pro-ceedings as the widow She went to California and married the copper king of the south Pacific |
