transactions on its floor will be increased daily I is an institution in-stitution in which every citizen of Salt Lake < and the state of Utah can well take pride a it offers a safe and legitimate channel for the transaction of business in mining and other stocks There is no city in the country that can boast of an institution that can excel the Salt Lake exchange in the matter of the high financial standing of Its officers and members and I this is any criterion to KO by the Salt Lake hard Is as substantial a a rock and has come here to stay There I no board i existence on I which so many dividendpaying stocks are listed as on the Salt Lake board and nowhere else can there be found more or better scecuiative stocks than I in Utah and it Is honed that in the near future a large number of tt ese i irill be listed with the exchange under the head of Prosoects Promect investment stocks are good but it takes cheap speculative stocks to make it lively in the ph for the investors in high prlced dividendpaying stocks are few and fia between and this fact is illustrated illus-trated frv the keen interest manifested and the quick and ready bidding hat takes place when the unlisted stocks are called and for this reason a i large number of prosnects should be regoiarlylisted the cghange desires r to meet a ponular demand i To consider his matter the listing I committee just south of Marysvale I is a recent arrival in the city and brings with him samples of carbonate I ore from the Alma tunnel that look good enough to eat and which indicate indi-cate that the long sought for ore body has at last been reached and that with his associates C A Ames and I Willis M Ames of this city he Is to be rewarded for his years of toil and privation Two weeks ago the streak of carbonate ore was but three inches wide but within a few feet it has opened up to a fine body as above stated and with shipping facilities it could be marketed at a profit I A few weeks ago while going up to the mine Mr Giles discovered a small oropping of ledge matter near the trail A twelvefoot cut with a sixfoot face has been run on this and a body of gray copper ore has been opened up that promises to develop into a mine of no mean proportions I Mr Giles says that the mining outlook out-look at Marysvale is good The Dalton and the Gold Belt are looking fine and encouraging assays have been obtained ob-tained from the face of the Duquesne tunnel A large body of ore has been opened up in the Clyde and tellurium ore has been found in the GilesNo 2 paralleling the Gold Belt STRIKE IK THE HENRY M Gold Quartz That Carries High In the Yellow Metal A strike of more than ordinary importance im-portance is reported to have been made in the Henry M claim located at the head of Bingham canyon in the West Mountain mining district This property prop-erty is owned by George il Lowe of this city and is under bond and lease to Henry Owens who recently arrived in the city bringing with him a lot of white quartz from the new discovery oa this property The quart carries free gold and runs as high as 240 in the yellow metal The strike is an important im-portant one aside from its value to those directly interested in the property prop-erty as i may lead to the location of the gold bearing ledge that has contributed con-tributed to the wealth of the rich gravel deposits that underlie the canyon can-yon for miles Mr Owens is also Interested with J W Smith in a valuable gold and copper cop-per proposition in Lemhi county Idaho In this mine they have a foot and a half of ore that run from 540 to 247 in gold to the ton besides carrying car-rying high in copper values The ore is highgrade showing free gold and i is believed that the ledge will Increase In-crease in size with depth TJASTERX PRIDE GROUP la ornorated as tOte New Year Gold Lining Company The mining claims known a the Eastern Pride Nos 1 2 3 4 and 5 in the Camp Floyd district were incorporated incor-porated Savings bank yesterday paid its regular quarterly quar-terly dividend of 2 per cent WASATCH OXYX COMPANY A DepoBlt of VarlColored Onyx In Emigration Canyon I is not generally known that in the mouth of Emigration canyon a deposit of beautiful onyx has been discovered Such is the case however and although al-though work on the property has been quietly carried on for some time the fact has been established that at our very gates the foundation for an industry in-dustry has been laid that promises to develop into magnificent proportions The onyx deposits above mentioned though only partially developed will doubtless rank in the future as among the finest in this country Already it has been found that slabs of this stone can be taken out that will dress 5x20 feet in the clear and the stratas vary from 1 inches to 2 feet in thickness II The onyx take on a beautiful polish and shows all the colors pf the rainbow rain-bow The green tints are the most j striking while the solid colors drab mouse and gray are simply elegant I A company has been organized for the development and manipulation of this onyx deposit known as the I Wasatch Onyx company of which M M Freed is president C M Freed vicepresident and Dennis Elchnor secretary and treasurer When it comes to the production of the beautiful as well as wealth Utah is strictly us it and in this respect stands the peer of any state in the Union FOR THE SACRA3IEXTO StILL Machinery at Fairfield and Will Soon Be in Place The machinery for the Sacramento mill has reached Fairfield and in the I morning G R Bothwell will go out I to arrange for its transportation to the mine at Mercur and it is expected I that the works will be started up within three weeks from this date I The mill will for the present have a capacity of 60 tons dally but this will eventually bb increased I is estimated that 100000 tons of ore are blocked out in the Sacramento mine which wilj average from 8 to 10 In gold to the ton This for a starter will cause the yellow boys to jostle over and help swell the volume of i finance but tf Camp Floyd continues to show up many more such propositions proposi-tions on short notice the powers that be will have to demonetize gold or i will become too plentiful The Sacramento is owned by J S Larken R E McConaughy and G R I Bothwell VEST MOiiTAUi FLAGEII co Worlssf Started Up After a Long Period of Idleness Day before yesterday work was resumed r re-sumed at the West Mountain Placer I companys works in Bingham which have been closed down now for a year or more This is an undertaking that I promised large returns and a big sum I of money was expended in sinking a triple compartment shaft to bed rock a depth of 150 feet but the heavy flow of water caused a suspension of work and for a while It seemed a if the project was impracticable notwithstanding notwith-standing the fact that the auriferous gravel which was very rich had been reached Now however profiting by past experiences It is believed that the development of these placers can be successfully carried on and that the great gold gravel beds underlying Bingham canyon will be forced to yield up their wealth of yellow metal The result of the development work as presented a year ago demonstrated to some extent the value of these gravel deposits as the average yield was thirty cents a pan and upwards in coarse gold The sinking of the West Mountain shaft has opened up a large area of virgin ground and if the venture proves a success the canyon will be dotted with hoists from Bing ham up as i is estimated that the gravel beds carrying gold extend up the canyon a distance of four miles or more I the gold ledge is ever struck from which this precious metal comes Bingham will rank as the greatest gold camp in the known world A NEW THIXG IN TOWN A Pnzle That is as Intricate as the Gold and Silver Question Cleveland and his bug puzzle was invented by Wm B Smedley one of our most popular young men whose friends are legion The merits of the puzzle as an educator following the line of public thought on finance together to-gether with the coming exciting contest con-test during the next presidential presIdental campaign cam-paign must attract the attention of the public and become as popular in this inter mountain region as it has in the east east Mr Smedley Is to be congratulated a I he will doubtless pile up the sheckels from the sale of his Invention The puzzle is on sale at the book stationery station-ery and drug stores THE GOLD FIELDS OF UTAH A Circular Letter That Is Being Scattered Through the East F A Wadleigh general passenger agent of the Rio Grande Western Is sending the following circular broadcast broad-cast over the east To the diversity of its mineral resources re-sources does Utah particularly attribute attrib-ute its coming greatness Within a distance of forty miles from Salt Lake city in the district known as Camp Floyd the Mercur camp is making great strides toward fame I is the only rival of Cripple Creek in the west and while its ore bodies are different In character from those of Cripple Creek the ore area is so extensive in dimension that the future of the camp is not problematical but assured The Mercur mine a control in which has recently been bonded for 1200000 is the mining marvel of the age I has been paying dividends on the basis of 300000 per year Recent developments has uncovered the ore body in the neighboring hills for a distance of over eight miles and indications point to one of the richest and most extensive gold fields the world has yet seen Very unlike the Mercur is the Marys vale district ISO miles south of Salt Lake city on the line of the Rio Grande Western railway where high grade free milling gold ore has recently been uncovered In addition to the Mercur and Marysvale camps the gold and silver camp of Tintic district and Bing ham as well as the smaller camps in the Henry and La Sal mountains Deep Creek and Dugway the encouraging encour-aging placers of the Green Grand and Colorado rivers all located on the line of the Rio Grande Western railway are attracting much attention There is not the shadow of a doubt but that Utah at
