Show RO O8ERTS A CANDDATE IS OUT FOE THE NOMINATION FOB CONGBESSBIAN A Committee Will Ask Hon S B Thurman to Become a Candidate For Supreme Judge Notwithstanding Notwith-standing His Befusal Judge King Goes to Provo j I B H Roberts is going to be a candidate candi-date for congress this fall and that statement goes without any strings on I He has lieen mentioned from time to time by friends who would like to see him have the place but up to date has said very little concerning the matter mat-ter himself Now however he makes no evasion but will be In the race for the nomination < > < > < > Several gentlemen of thiscity have concluded they will make an effort to induce SamMel R Thurman to run for the office of justice of the supreme court and tothat end a committee will doubtless call on him with the request that he run < S > 4 > < St In this connection < State Senator Chambers Is going to favor a bill for the increasing of the salaries of the members of the judiciary He believes the salaries of the members of the supreme su-preme cqurt should be made 5000 per year instead of three and that the salaries sal-aries of the distrbt jUdges should be increased somewhat Then we can induce good men to run for the places he said At this time an attorney with ability for the place will not consent to leave his practice to take the nomination nomina-tion The interests of litigants requires that none but the best material should be on the bench and I am in favor of increasing the salary I also favor raiSing raiS-ing the salary of the governor to 5000 per year I is no more than he is entitled en-titled to The state will never feel the expense and we owe to ourselves the duty of making the salaries commensurate commen-surate with the dignity and ability of the men we call upon to go to the convention con-vention 2 < < S > < Judge King went to Provo yesterday but will return today He has some important im-portant legal l business down there this morning which demanded his immediate imme-diate and personal attention |
