Show WON ey Al HALLOW 7 High School Football Players Battled Bat-tled Like Spartans WAS A SPLENDID CONTEST THE VICTORS HELD DOWN TO FOUR POINTS One of the Most Exciting Games Witnessed I Utah This Season Perfect Team Work By Both Sides But All Hallows Had the Advantage of WeightPlayed In Deep Mud r Mostly a fumble and a muddy field did itthe cruelest fumble that ever broke eleven stout hearts a field which for luscious variations in mud no Mississippi Mis-sissippi swamp could ever hope to excel ex-cel S Having lost the elusive slippery pigskin pig-skin in the first half the little Spartans Spar-tans of the High School fought madly despairingly and yet in vain to again get possession of it The All Hallows gladiators grasped it so firmly that graped i frmly a hydraulic press could not have wrenched wrench-ed it from them and then with superior sinew and greater weight pushed the red and white through the mire and plunged them in muddy pools until with a final rush they went sliding over them for a touchdown and a victory vic-tory toryI was a glorious battle I 22 Ghoor ka warriors could have seen them r it 3 UIMiJITTHEL litJo 5iIlt I t I ro riE PEiSOj I TUEHICiI IUCO S 4 S 1 screams of terror Dripping with liquidated mud their knotted hair coiled like the gory locks of the war god the rival columns rushed at each other I was a great game with few variations varia-tions in it Whichever side had the ball sent the other plashing over the slippery slip-pery U of U campus grounds and nothing could resist them The snow and the mud shattered defensive work When the High School lost the ball after their first gallant rush their only I hope was in a fumble and in this All Hallows were not obliging S A HARD BATTLE The way of the collegians was not paved with roses and they earned the victory by strong team woik and the sturdy work of the backs The two Fannings and Harrington did almost I all the ground gaining J P Fanning came out of the fray with his classic features neatly painted in mud and the sleeve missing from his dexter arm Little Fanning a fullback excelled himself and was the joy of the rooters when his small form kept piercing the compact High School line for continued gains The line of All Hallows was strong as stone and large inroads were made in the red and white The High School eleven were somewhat some-what weakened by the absence of Dun nell their fullback a Howell who took his place was not altogether familiar with his duties behind the line as the change became necessary just before when there time left the game was no tme I for practice Howell was needed in the line where Campbell did not attain any very great brilliancy GOOD TEAM WORK During the brief offensive campaign of the High School their inspiring team wcrk was shown to advantage Tat Taylor and Smith swung around the end for long gains aided by some interference inter-ference that was beyond reproach The heavy three of the center did some valorous work against their heavier opponents and little Miller pierced the interference of All Hallows every time they assayed his end with great cleverness clever-ness A Taylor on the other end was a somewhat weaker vessel and the All Hallows column frequently climbed over him for some of their longest groundwinners S THE COEDS CHEERED Most of the shouting and the waving wav-ing of colors was done for the high SCl101 I pretty bevy of coeds cheered cheer-ed them from the bleachers and the rooters were raised for the red and black in shrill shouts The crowd was about a far from the control of the liolice as a Hock of kites and early in the game formed a skirmish line around the players that could not be broken THE GAME Fanning kicked off for All Hallows to HowellTvttio on a double pass gave the ball to W Smith who gained 15 yards by the maneuvrc The high I school then began an assault on the All Hallows line Taylor penetrating it for five yards while Smith added five more Smiths attempt at an end run was blocked by Tallon but Smith redeemed re-deemed himself a moment by a seven yard dash through the line The guards back order was given and Howe pushed the ball through for ten yards The guards back formation was repeated a moment later but this time Howell fumbled the ball and J P Fanning simply swallowed It The S college then tried the mettle of the I high school line discovering i was I hard After being repulsed with no I gain the ball was given to Harrington I for the third down gven gained seven yards and was landed into a pool of mud by the courtesy of Howell where he stuck fast The All Hallows backs failed to get through the high school line in the next mix up and the ball went to the red and black on downs Little Tat Taylor made a very pretty end run at the conclusion of which he too was treated to a mud bath and came up looking like a Digger Indian after a good dinner After gains by Howell and Smith which carried the ball to the 15yard line the guards back formation was tried and the ball was fumbled and Howell got it with a loss of five yards The high school failed to cover the requisite amount of territory and the ball went to the other side on downs Through steady bucking Harrington Har-rington and Fanning pushed the ball to the high school 40yard line where the whistle of the referee stopped them End of the first half S SECOND HALF When the next half began Riter had taken the place of Stanton at quarterback quarter-back and Campbell took the place of W Smith at left tackle Miller got the ball on the kick off and returned it five yards through the mud Harrington Harring-ton and Fanning made small gains and then attempted a crisscross which was stopped by Taylor so hard their teeth fell out On the last down the All Hallows had five yards to gain and they got it by a dash around the end by Fanning where he was stopped by Tarpey ONeill garnered about four yards of space and with steady gains by the backs the ball was advanced to within five yards of the goal where P Fanning lunged over the line against a post and made a touchdown Fanning failed to kick goal Score All Hallows I 4 High School 0 The high school made a pretty play at this point They kicked off the ball before the crowd had retired and before be-fore All Hallows were prepared for it Howell reached the ball which put i onside and it was carried to the All Hallows 10yard line The referee decided de-cided that the play did not go as both sides had agreed to wait until the field had been cleared of the crowd This was the last chance of the high school winning After the kick off the ball vanished from them and they saw it no more until the end of the game All Hallows bucked their way down to the 40yard line where time was called The line UDAll UD-All Hallows High
