the present but will soon commence operations again with Peter McLaughlin in charge Edward Hines is much pleased over a good strike lately made in his mine Change of Management The Herald is informed that yesterday yester-day Dr E D Woodruff the manager of the Northern Light Mining company had resigned on account of ill health and the need of rest and that L H Curtis the present secretary of the company had been appointed to fill the vacancy Dr Woodruff has given the company excellent service He has labored hard and earnestly in the furtherance of the best interests of the company and but i I few can understand the amount of work and ivorry it has taken to bring i this Lion hill property to its present stage of excellence In retiring from the position he has so long and ably filled the doctor takes with him the best wishes of the stockholders of the ccmpany as well as of the leading mining min-ing men of the city The change will only affect the management man-agement of the affairs of the company r r however as far as Mr Woodruff is concerned as he will still remain a director recto of the company as well a one of the largest stockholders t Mr Curtis who has been the efficient 1 secretary of the company for the past year or so is thoroughly familiar with j the condition of affairs at the mine I and mill and his appointment will give I I universal satisfaction to all concerned and as the property is in such shape at i the present time that it is believed it i i will not be long before it is on a paying pay-ing basis there is no doubt but that the confidence manifested in Mr Curtis i > ability has been well placed Recent advices from the mine are of an encouraging nature Back Prcca Beaver Lake Colonel S B Milner returned yesterday yester-day from a visit to Beaver Lake district dis-trict where he made an examination of the Crete mine in which he is heavily heav-ily interested and although the trip i was a hard one on account of the stormy weather he felt well repaid for I his trouble and exposure as he states that the mine is looking well with a i nice body of mineral exposed in the or I bottom of the 60foot shaft although the value of the ore will not be determined deter-mined until today I The Crete is an extension of the Kate Sackett mine owned by the Beaver I Lake Mining company df this city The colonel mde an examination of the Kate Sackett ard states that it is I locking exceedingly well with a nice body of ore exposed in the bottom 6f the shaft and he expresses the opinion opin-ion that with continued development it I will open out into a paying proposition proposi-tion I is the intention to push work in the Crete which has all the earmarks of coming to the front as a producer of a good grade of ore Rich Montana Strike Butte Mont Dec 9 Reports from the Lowland mining district are that a rich strike of gold and silver quartz has been made in the Ruby mine and that over a million dollars worth of ore is in sight The owners are taking camp and district at large are enjoying a steady and substantial growth I It is learned that the Chloride Point company has just placed 11000 snares of I its treasury stock at 50 cents a share and that with the proceeds of the sale it has paid the balance due on its new mill and the machinery which is now on the way to the mine from the east No more of the treasury stock however is to be had at this figure Democrat Baker City Orei A W Mc Cune has let a contract to the McPherson brothers for sinking 100 feet and drifting 200 feet on the Worley mine This property prop-erty is situated in the Greenhorn district and since falling into the hands of Mr McCune ha been christened the Greenhorn Green-horn mine The McPherson brothers expect ex-pect to complete their contract in CO days J J Trenam manager of the Ben Harrison went down to Beaver Lake district dis-trict last night with the pay checks for the men employed in the development of the mine F Eberhardt the president or the company just returned from the east and will now devote sometime some-time to his various Utah mining interests inter-ests During his absence from the city Mr Dorsey has had considerable SICKness SICK-ness in his family his wife liavlng had a severe attack which confined her I to her bed f5r Several weeks besides which Mr Dorsey was called upon to bury his mother who died quite suddenly Butte Miner Manager Buzzo of the Alice company has just returned from Salt Lake where he attended the directors di-rectors meeting at which another dividend divi-dend of 20000 was declared payable Dec 20 The Alice properties in Walkerville under the able management of Mr Buzzo are being constantly improved and good hopes are entertained of larger dividends next year The company has on its payroll pay-roll about COO men and the GOstamp mill is kept busy night and day on the ore I hoisted from the Alice Magna Charta I Blue Wing and other mines now in operation I opera-tion There was a report in the city this
