Show I WHEAT MADf A GREAT RECORD I II I HIGHEST POINT BID IN CHXCA GO FOR SIX TEAKS Operations of the Bull CliqueOther Grains Influenced By Wheat Provisions Higher Chicago Dec 9 Not since August 1S31 has any months delivery of wheat sold 1 as high as December did today It rose 1 from 101 at the opening to 1 03 but in some Irregular tttshici It Had many a i > sudden backward elide but in the end it j j I rested at 107 or the rot inconsiderable I i improvement i of 64 csitts Tor the day January was a good second winding up i with a gain of 3 cntf May was less demonstrative it its bullishness Its ad i vance was 1 cents a bushel Other gram i I and provision I markets were more or less I influenced i by the advance in wheat Corn j and oats closed c higher each and pro j I i I visions 57 cents higher Wheat was very nervous at the start I Shorts were evidently alarmed by the announcement er ll1tUe ir clique had I made arrangements to ship by rail all the wheat delivered them on December contracts and had also made advantageous advantag-eous storage contracts in the cast The I consequence was there was a host of buying I buy-ing orders for December at the opening mostly of moderate lots it Is true hut they had the same effect on the already i strained market as If they were for millions mil-lions There was no wheat for sale December closed yesterday at lOOU but opening bids today ranged all the way I from 101 to 104 and at the top there was scarcely = bushel to be had This precipitated pre-cipitated a perfect scramble among the shorts not in December alone but in January Jan-uary and May also Before wheat came out 105 was offered for December Then came a lull which lasted for an hour The brokers operating iI th > bull cliqus attempted i at-tempted to stem the tide but probable from 200000 to i5jGOO bushels were taken before a reaction occurred December d2 clincd to 1034 but by 1145 had again r risen to 105 Then came the storm Within five minutes and amid whirl of excitement December was bid to 103 It reacted with a jerk to LOO4 thn up again without atop a-top to 109 the hIghest point bid for wheat in this market in six years Probably Prob-ably as much wheat was sold on this advance ad-vance as on the other one After that the market was quieter January shorts in the meantime had not been idle That month opened strong at from 93 to 94 and it sold as high as 97 during the excitement an advance of 5 since yesterday It was figured that the influences controlling December also applied ap-plied to January and shorts got undercover under-cover as quickly as they could May was also very strong though it did not have the same panicky appearance as the other positions It opened at 91091 as compared com-pared with yesterdays closing price of 90Wg20 and had advanced by noon to S2J92 If the market at the opening i had been left as usual to take its imprint im-print from those things that usually affect af-fect It a decline would in all probaliit have occurred Liverpool opened at an advance of d and closed only a shade higher although they must have known before the end of this session of the early considerable strength of the market here I Reports of rains Interfering with the harvesting in Argentine and that the exportable ex-portable surplus would be reduced in consequence con-sequence was one of the items of the days news that like a good many more received very little attention December during the final hours trading moved irregularly ir-regularly between lOS and 107 closing nervous at that price May had reacted to 92 at the close while January wound up at 94 Corn was dull but firm the range being ih i The tone was due largely to the advance in wheat closing c higher Oats were quite i active and strong in J tIi rifi Yel cl l sympathy with wheat May closed 3c higher Not much interest was manifested in provisions The closing prices were higher January pork 5 cents higher January Jan-uary lard 7 ½ cents higher and January ribs 5 cents higher at the close The leading futures ranged as follows WHEATNo 2 7 I Open I Elgh I Low I Clone Dec 1015T104H09 1101y 107 Jan 93fi91 1961k 93 94 May191 929291 921S92Y CORNNo2 I Open I
