Show I I HOME RULE FOR ARIZONA I I Bill Providing For Election of Territorial Ter-ritorial Officers I Washington Dec Delegate Smith 1 of Arizona today introduced a bll which provides for a rather radical j change in the conditions now existing in that territory I provides for the i I election on the first Monday in November I Novem-ber 1S98 of the following territorial officers of-ficers who shall hold office for four years unless otherwise prescribed by the legislative assembly of the territory terri-tory Governor secretary of state auditor au-ditor treasurer attorney general superintendent of public instruction I one chief justice and three associate justices or me supreme court These officers are to have the same I powers as such officers now hold All other territorial officers are to be appointed ap-pointed by the governor by and with the consent of the territorial council The salary and compensation of these officers shall be paid at the time and in the manner prescribed by law At present the governor and secretary are appointed by the president of the United States and confirmed by the senate The other officers named are appointed by the governor and confirmed con-firmed by the territorial council Mr Smiths bill would give local self government to Arizona |
