Show YALiilEIE AGAIN V Report of the New York Yacht Club on the Famous Event NEW YORK Jan 14The annual report re-port of the regatta committee of the New York Yacht club consisting of S N Nicholson Kane Chester Griswold and Irving Grinnell has just been made public The portion that will claim mae the attention of the public is that relating to the international races last Telatng fal tween Defender and Valkyrie The report under the heading the match for the Americas cup goes ex haustively into all the circumstances leading up to the foul which lost Val kyrie the second race and Defenders claim and Valkyries defence are given in detail Lord Dunraven claimed that Defender broke rules 7 10 1 and 16 of the New York Yacht club and winds up by saying Had I deemed it possible Defender would protest I should have protested against her I believed the foul to have been the resul beleved accident I thought that being affected by my wash and her V head sails being sais right under my mainsail she had probably prob-ably taken a sudden sheer to windward and unintentionally fouled me Under these circumstances I did not think it necessary to protest The committee justified its action in sustaining Mr Isellns protest in the fol lowing words Section I of rule XVI reads A yacht shall not bear away out of her course so as to hinder another passage to leeward and it was on this action that the committee based its decision de-cision Referring to the crowding of the course the report says A the courses were outside the three mile limit there was no authority over them but a flotilla of twenty steam yachts belonging to the club acted as patrol On September 7 the accompany log vessels were mixed up acompany consequence con-sequence they took up a pertion which somewhat cramped the starting line and compelled both yachts for a short time tme after the start to work through a por tion of the feet I is our opinion that with this exception there was no more interference through the match than tha there was in 1113if there was as much Valkyrie cited against Defender the fol lowing sections under rule XVI An overtaking yacht shall in every case so long as an overlap exists keep clear of the yacht which is being overtaken |
