Show BAKSATO TALKS Gives Some VieWH on the Financial Crisis and Sustains Rhodes LONDON Jan HAt the statutory meeting of the Barnato bank today avery a-very large number of persons w represent re-present Barney Barnato occupied the chair In dealing with the assets of the bank he said that the three companies com-panies belonging to the bank could repay re-pay 90 per cent of their capital and that the others could repay their capital cap-ital ten times over Continuing Mr Barnato defended Mr Cecil Rhodes expresident of Cape Colony and Dr Jameson leader of the raid into the Transvaal Again referring to the affairs of the bank Mr Barnajto said that in spite of the fact that they had gone through an unprecedented financial crisis and that the depreciation ofSouth Africans had been from 10000000 to 30000000 during the last six months the bank could declare a dividend of 20 percent per-cent which would have been doubled he asserted under favorable circumstances circum-stances A vote of confidence in the chairman and directors of the Barnato banks was passed After the vote had been taken some I of the shareholders attempted to question ques-tion Mr Barnato but he hurriedly adjourned ad-journed the meeting and with the directors di-rectors left the hall from which they were followed with hooting and hissing |
