Show Bricks From Grants Tomb New York May 4Callers at the city hal in search of bricks from the i temporary tomb of General Grant have I gone away disappointed Two cartloads cart-loads of these brick had been brought down to the city hal Saturday night and stored away under lock and key in one of the old cells in the basement None of the callers obtained bricks for the reason that the mayor has them for a specified purpose Some time ago said he I received a request from a Grand Army post in Illinois for come of the bricks t be kent as souvenirs Since that time I have suvenis tme he received re-ceived similar requests from Grand Army pots all over the country They each want one brick at least as a memory mem-ory When I was at the tomb a week ago I asked Contractor Brady to fund me 1000 of the bricks He has done so and they are now down stairs The city owns the bricks and for that reason rea-son I will lay the question of their distribution dis-tribution before the board of estimate and after permission 1 grunted I will cause the bricks to be sent to the Grand Army pOts I think that is a ery proper them and appropriate use to make of < r J |
