| Show THE SALMON RIVER COUNTRY Salt Lakers Getting in on Valuable Properties There From a gentleman who is just in from Salmon City Ida it is i learned that there will be a great deal of activity ac-tivity in Lemhi county this summer in the mining line and that among those j whoare getting in on good propositions j there a number of Salt Lakers are j playing an important part Not far from Shoup on the Salmon river Junius Young jr of Salt Lake is directing work in the erection of a 20stamp combination mill on the property prop-erty of the Monolith Mining company of this city As there are no roads to I this mine the machinery was floated down the river last week on flot bopts I from Salmon City and the contract I for the erection of the nlant was l ito i-to Deriins Boish who are to have I the mill ready to start by the first of September I The mine is in an inaccessible place but the motive power for the mill will he generated by a water wheel so that it will be an easy matter to take out the product of the mine in the shape of bullion which can be taken to the nearest railroad or highway on horseback horse-back The mine is located 300 ards from the bank of the river but the I ore will be conveyed to the mill by means of a Pickett tramway The Monolith has had ouite a record I rec-ord in the nast as a producer and I before it passed into the hands of the i present company it was worked on a I lease by mining men who made quite a handsome stake with an old 10stamp mill but with the new plant and with 11a fine showing of ore blocked out in the mine H J is exnected that i wil make a great showing this summer as the rock runs U4 on the plates on an average Between Shoun and Salmon City on j the river is the Indian Creek mie I which is owned bv Chicago parties i who will also erect a mill this summer This will be a IDstamp plant the ma chinerv for which was sent down the river on a fiatboat last week and it is I expected that the owners will be sending send-ing in old bullion within the next four months I On Sage creek just above Indian I creek there is another promising gold proposition which is also owned by Chicago Pole This mine was discovered dis-covered last summer b l a ooor prospector pros-pector who sold I to Salmon City mining min-ing operators for 1000 and ther in turn sold it to the Chicago capitalists for 45000 who have since opened up large reserves and are now making arrangements I ar-rangements for the erection of a 10 1 stamp mill This is I making good time I and it will hardly be 18 months since j the discovery of the pronerty before it 1 i will be turning out gold bullion with a mill of its own I I According to The Heralds informant the McDonald Brothers of Butte who I operated so successfully in the Gib bonsviile region last year have I just purchased the Bull of the Woods mine I between Sage creek and Gibbonsville This is a splendid piece of property and the McDonalds who put up the mill at the A D M mine at Gib bonsville last year at a cost of 70000 and which turned out 240000 in gold bullion during the year 1896 will build mjne its duplicate this summer on the Bull of the Woods I i There are quite a number of smaller operators in the county the gentleman went on to say and they are making money Captain Turner commonly known as Driftwood in that region hds put In a little 3stamp i i mill and is treating about three tons i of quartz a day that will mill 22 on the plates Ee employs water for a I motive power and with four men to operate the mine and mill is taking out I a handsome sum even month On j Pine creek there are quite a number who are making good money with arastras with water for power and I am of the opinion that this is one of the safest ways to make money in that I country unless one has money to jro I into business on a large scale In speaking of the Goldstone the gentleman referred to stated that this I was one of the most promising properties proper-ties in that section of Idaho and that it would surely develop into a bonanza I as already the company had large reserves re-serves of good milling ore blocked out and J was expected when he left Salmon Sal-mon City that the new mill being erected by the company would begin I dropping stamps sometime next week The Goldstone is a Salt Lake corporation corpora-tion in which the Crismons of the I Utah Galena L W Clark of the Chloride Point and others are interested inter-ested The Goldstone is located about I 15 miles east of Salmon City The Bingham Placer companys enterprise en-terprise was also mentioned and the statement was made that this would come to the front this summer as a I heavy producer of the yellow metal as the works have been installed on a mammoth scale and the gravel is rich I in gold From all indications Lemhi county I will come to the front this summer |
