Show GOT OFF EASY Young Julius Miller Fined For As sault With n Rock Julius L Miller a boy of about 16 who was Indicted by the grand jury for assaulting as-saulting another youth named Lloyd with I a deadly weapon came up before Judge Bartch and by his attorney W F Gunter Gun-ter desired to withdraw his former plea of not guilty and to enter a plea of guilty to assault The prosecution consented to this and the accused who was in court with his mother and sister and who presented I pre-sented quite a respectable appearance said he was read for Sentence 1 Mr Gunter made a statement saying i it was a school boy row that the I defendant was very penitent and had suffered keenly from the disgrace of the position In which he found himself Mr Gunter thought that a fine of 51 and costs t of the case which were quite heavy would meet the ends of justice i Assistant United States Attorney Richards 1 1 Rich-ards said as far as he was concerned he would be satisfied with a nominal punishment I pun-ishment but stated that County Attorney Whittemore was better acquainted with I the case than he was The county attorney made a statement to the court In substance that Lloyd and I Miller who both were attending school got Into a quarrel Lloyd appeared to be the aggressor and Miller the defendant had struck Lloyd on the head with a stone nearly as large as a mans foot which he held in his hand during the fight A dozen wounds of not a very serious se-rious nature were made on Lloyds head His opinion was that Miller was no worse than many of the other boys In the neighborhood and as he was very sorry for his misconduct a light punishment would meet the case S Judge Bartch after exacting a promise from Julius to behave himself Ih the future let him off with a fine of Land costs which was at once paid by te lads mother Judge Bartch suggested to the prose cttion that It would be well to arrest ClIton und prosecute not only the principals in fights of the kind but those who took actors part by aiding and abetting the chief |
