works of the Pioneer Power company In Ogden canyon will have been inaugurated inaug-urated It is by far the heaviest power I proposition in the territory and one of j j the greatest importance to the people i I of the territory at large hut to those of the city of Ogden in particular for it Tieans everything to them including manufactories cheaper light and cbeapvi coal If all reports are correct Salt Lake Is also to reap the direct benclus of the enterprise for it Is claimed that all of j L the contracts for the conveying of the lighting and power to this city have I leeii entered upon and are now of full i i record The Pioneer project is a twin of the rig Cottonwood proposition upon which work has never ceased since its j inauguration last year These two great I i undertakings should work wonders for the chief cities of the territory I j At a meeting of the beard of directors 1 of the Pioneer Power company held in j this city yesterday at which all of the i directors with the exception of two j y were present and took part in the de I i liberations thf many vital questions in connection with the enterprise were con pdered and studied out as a result of I which the contract for the Installation j of the power plant was awarded to the i Rhodes Bros of Salt Lake and Denver I The work of the contractors will cover I the putting in of the great pipe line and I the f the water at the i Eite pel power plant I W 1 the mouth of the t canyon li 2 below the Inlet of the mains vt iJQis to be several thousand feet farther up the canyon from Uinslows It is stated that the contract iviili the Tthodes Eros Involves the sum of not less than J430000 while the installation instal-lation and Insulation of the entire works TV ill cut pretty near to 050000 The contractors con-tractors informed the board of directors that they were prepared to deliver the water In full force at the mouth of the A canyon by the first day of November and they are the people who can carry X through such a gigantic undertaking with success and in the time named in the contract They also announced that within the next four days a force of not less than twentyfive men would be at ork in the canyon preparing for the greater work which is to follow The inauguration in-auguration of operations will be at the upper end of the line and it is the present pres-ent intention to throw open at once sufficient suffi-cient ground to make it possible to work to advantage a force of from one to two hundred men The surveys of the canyon for the new line have just been com jdeted and they show that with the pipeline pipe-line alone a power of not lees than 6500 horsepower can bo generated through the apnlficent fall which the great volume of water will have I For the present the dam proposition will not be taken but when the I up company shall have successfully placed all of the power to be generated by the pipe line i then the enlargements are to be made and j the dam will be constructed and a pipeline i pipe-line made to connect it with the power plant This would give ample power for I the needs of the entire northern part of I i the territory In speaking of the plans of the company com-pany one of the directors stated yesterday yes-terday afternoon to a Herald reporter that although all of the money necessary neces-sary to complete the great works had not yet been secured there was no doubt I but that it would speedily be forthcoming forthcom-ing and it had been deemed advisable I by the board to go ahead with the contracts I con-tracts and at once commence the actual construction of the system This work I Is not to be allowed to lag he stated further but there are certain contingencies contin-gencies which will be met by the neople of the city of Ogden and the entire section to bt directly bcnefltted There are to bo over six miles of six foot pipe wood and steex used in the construction of tho system and the ort or-t ders for the necessary materials have T already been placed by the Rhodes Bros i f Of the entire amount 23000 feet are to be of wooden mains and 6000 feet of 1 steel Xo dam will be used at the head of the line a simple inlet being sufficient I to throw sufficient wat r into the line I to generate the required 6500 horse power i t by the time of its arrival at the mouth I i fa 1J Vt t th fh ft g of the canyon and the site of the
