Show I SPRING OX RED OAK I The grass is green on Red Oak farm And on the hill the sun lies warm The maple buds are tinged with red I And down to earth their husks have shed The elms point green the locusts gray Discard their somber garb for gay And there the vagrant fragrant breeze I Stirs the white slope of orchard trees Here by the house where bluebirds sing I The peach bloom glows the rose of spring I Whose sweets allure the murmurous bees To cluster there and sip its lees The long low hedge that skrts the hill I Shows each day green and greener still While pasture lields of verdure bright Reveal a promise of delight And glow about the meadow bars All spangled deep with golden stars I And there beyond the clear full stream II Runs swiftly smoothl as a dream In winding way far down the vale Till lost among the willows pale I And In the hollows of the slope Fair wild flowers fill the world with hope The waves of woods where zephyrs I roam Show crests of green and amber foam And In the margin of the grove The red hud flames a treasure trove The dogwood like a flash of light Unfolds its chalices of white And through the balmy stillness floats The sound of magic woodland notes The song of bird and hum of bee Preludes of summers symphony Along the greening sylvan way A maiden comes fair as the day The light of sky Is In her eyes Her heart Is filled with sweet surmise Tho soft winds kiss her golden hair The breath of love Is evrywhere Chambers Baird in the Boston Evening Transcript |
