Show SEARCH FOR HERMANS Donovan and Janney at Market Lake Yesterday HEADED FOR SWAN VALLEY XOLAXS SUSPECT BELIEVED TO BE LOCATED THERE All Hope That the Errand Will Be Successful and the Murderer Brought Back But the Evidence That Hermans Went East Is Very Strong Went From Kansas City to Superior Yesterdays Developments Develop-ments While all sincerely hope that Captain Donovan and Detective Janney may find Rev Francis Hermans up in Idaho Ida-ho where George M Nolan says he has located him it does not seem at all certain that they will A careful investigation made yesterday yester-day by John E Hanson demonstrated positively that when Hermans left Salt Lake the last time he purchased a ticket at the Rio Grande Western office here for Kansas City More than that the record shows that the man started on his journey that the ticket which was a clergymans special rate was I used through to Kansas City and that the two pieces of baggage checked by the minister a leather trunk and a bundle went through to the same point More than that a letter was received re-ceived from him from Kansas City PROBABLY WENT EAST This all indicates very strongly that Hermans after leaving Salt Lake went direct to Kansas City and the question arises as to whether he would double on his trail and spend valuable time in coming back to the region from which he succeeding in escaping so easily Some claim that he did not go to his destination at all but leaving the train after going some distance turned back and went north Chief Pratt is of the opinion that the murderer did not even start east but made his way directly to the section where Mr Nolan has his man located Nolan is so positive that this individual is Hermans that i is difficult to believe he has made a mistake mis-take but on the other hand the evidence evi-dence regarding the railroad ticket is equally convincing PROBABLY SWAN VALLEY I As to the exact point where the suspected sus-pected man is located some light was shed upon this point yesterday after upn noon when Chief Pratt stated that he had received a telegram from Captain Donovan dated at Market Lake This would indicate that the officers are making for the direction of Swan valley where there is quite a Swedish settlement A REASSURING TELEGRAM The contents of the telegram the chief refused to divulge except that it was reassuring that Hermans would be found From this it may be inferred in-ferred that Nolan has unfolded what he knowsto the officers and that they I are more confident than ever that they are on the right tri CORROBORATES THE OTHER THEORY I The belief that Nolan ha the right I man was strengthened yesterday when John H Hanson and Rev Arvesen who were at the depot with Hermans I when he bought the ticket and checked check-ed his trunks for Kansas City who described the clothes worn by the preacher which in every particular allied with the description given by Nolan The only difference was in the headgear Messrs Hansen and Arvesen say Hermans wore a black derby Nolan says his traveling companion panion into Idaho wore a gray hat of oft material This deficiency may be accounted for however as it is quite likely that the pastor might have had a soft hat for traveling purposes ELDER MORK RETURNS Elder Mork returned yesterday from I Brigham City and together with Hanson Han-son and Arvesen made another search of the basement The only thing discovered covered was a ladys hand satchel I found buried near the furnace The bag has not been identified and its discovery may not have any bearing On the case whatever I I QUIET AT THE CHURCH Everything was quiet about the church yesterday save for the constant I I con-stant crowds of visitors who come to stare at the church I is really I amusing too About noon yesterday a party of fashionably dressed ladies drove up to the church and without any preliminaries walked up the stair way and into the auditorium They 1 eyed everything curiously and suspiciously sus-piciously One of the party found a sheet of music on the organ This was taken and torn into as many pieces as there were members of the party each taking a piece a a relic of the place A burly Swede a few moments later walked up pushed Elder Mork who was standing in the doorway aside and demanded to see the bloody murderer Just about dusk last evening another party of ladies drove up and asked to be admitted that they might have a look at the blood stains on the wall Being informed that no gore was visi le they asked permission to see the furnace where Miss Clausens body had been cremated These are but instances of the peculiar class who daily throng the premises asking all sorts of foolish questions One even asked a lady tenant if they had not seen ghosts about the place since the crimes were committed |
