Show SBVI VALLEY CANAL Work of Year Discussed Annual Meeting e Special Correspondence Richfield Jan 15The Sevier Valley Canal company held its annual meeting a few days ag The secretarys report showed an expenditure on the canal of expndiure cna 04245 on Three creek dam at the head I of the canal 53111 other expenses 68544 making a total disbursement for 1S9S of 51859 The Otter Creek Reservoir com pany had levied an assessment of 24S0 on the irrigation company Amount subscribed subscrib-ed to the reservoir company l2 v The ocers elected for the ensuing two years are as follows President W H Clark vice president J C Peterson secretary retary and treasurer W G Baker directors direc-tors L P Hansen R D Young F D Christensen B H Greenwood and P E Westman I was decided at this meeting to make the present terminus of the canal at the south foot of the first cedar ridge north of Richfield It was also decided that a new estimate mate be made of the amount of land to be benefited by this canal and to regu late the price of water right per acre accordingly ac-cordingly V The Sevier Valley Canal company Is incorporated in-corporated with a capital stock of 62000 I Is not a speculative enterprise but purely in the interests of those who have farming lands in the valley and those who wish to take up land on the slopes under the canal This slope land is very fertile and needs V only water to make It highly productive I will bring thousands of acres under cultivation and provide farming lands for several hundred families fam-ilies I Tho canal is taken out of the Sevier river at a point two miles south of Joseph Jo-seph City and runs through Joseph City I Elsinore and Richfield to Willow creek ridge about three miles north of Richfield Rich-field When completed to the terminus decided upon it will be twentyfive miles in length For the first fifteen miles the canal is twelve feet wide at the bottom and for the remainder of the distance it an is nine feet wide TJje canal company owns about onefifth of the stock of the Otter creek reservoir which will be of great advantage when the reservoir is completed The canal will then be widened widen-ed and extend ultimately down the valley probably as far as Redmond |
