Show DEFENSE OF BRECKOTRIDGE Volunteers Protest Against a War Department Injustice Lexington Ky Jan 15A letter has been written by an exmember of the Fifth Wisconsin volunteer infantry who resides in this city in which he calls on all the volunteers who were encamped at Chickamauga to protest against the action of the war department depart-ment in its reqent orders to General Joseph C Breckinridge Inspector gen I v lb I eral of the United States army The letter states that as soon as General I Breckinridgo assumed command at I Chickamauga the conditions existing I there improved to a marked degree and urges the volunteers to do what they can for him by concerted action and Influence upon the congressmen from their respective districts The letter is a very able one It is written by the Kentucky political representative rep-resentative of the Cincinnati Commercial Commer-cial Tribune Mr Paul Shouz Copies of it are to be printed by the thousands I and sent to volunteers all over the country I The orders referred to in the letter were those of the war department to General Breckinridge to go on a tour of inspection along with other action of the war department all of which he considers humiliating and tending to make him resign from the army |
