Show GLASGOWS EXPOSITION Scotch Commissioners Come Over to Invite Cooperation New York Jan AThreB commissioners commission-ers from Glasgow arrived onthe St Louis today to lay before President McKinley and his cabinet particulars regarding the Glasgow exhibition to be held in 1D01 I Thez aro R Crawford Thomas Mason and Michael Simons They are former members of the corporation of Glnss wand w-and were appointed commissioners by the lord provost of that city They are accompanied ac-companied by J M Smith editor of the Glasgow Evening News He comes hereto here-to study American journalism R Crawford is the chairman of the fine arts and archaeology department of the exhibition Thomas Mason deputy chairman chair-man of the building lights and grounds I department and Michael Simons chair r r U T T T T TTTYT T T 1 1 I man of tho musical and entertainment department We have Come over to assure American Amer-ican representation at the exhibition said Mr Crawford We wish to obtain representation from those handling laborsaving labor-saving machinery and those engaged in commercial and Industrial enterprises We believe we wll pain the sympathy If not the active coooeration of the United States government In the exhibition The success of tie affair will be largely due to the sympathy obtained in this country It is to be held the year after the Paris exposition and we are hopeful of having many of the American exhibits at the former city sent to Glasgow They will be stored at the expense of the city We are not assisted by the government of Great Britain but by the local authorities authori-ties It will be held In Kelvin grove in the city of Glasgow from May 1 to Oct 19 1901 We have just completed In this grove a magnificent art gallery and museum mu-seum at a cost of over a million dollars This gallery will occupy a central position posi-tion The commissioners will go to Washington Washing-ton on Thursday After visiting the president pres-ident they will visit other cities to meet commercial bodies I |
