Show SUMMIT TEACHERS Interesting Institute Jut Held at Coalville Special Correspondence Coalville Jan 7A day long to be remembered re-membered and sincerely appreciated was spent here today In the joint convention of the teachers and trustees of Summit te county at which by special Invitation Miss Maud May Babcock and Professor James p Talmago of the University of Utah at Salt Lake were present and took part There were present the greater great-er part of the teachers of the county and of the from near representatives trustees frm ner I ly all the districts in the county al The morning session convened at SJO oclock and opened with a glee entitled Utah We Love Thee by Mrs J A Smith Miss May Wilkins Mrs Lena lIy Thackeray and Miss Lizzie Walker and the Messrs Frank Olsen Carl Allison Joseph Booth and Alex Walker Paper The Beauties of Trustees by C H Wirth Paper Something the Teacher Needs by F A Swanger sih Each of the papers was followed by a general discussion At 2 p m the following programme was rendered rendere The Classmates Song by the above double quartette Addrs On Reading by Miss Babcock Bab-cock wherein she advanced IdesS and theories on the subject by Illustrations and recitals that were new and highly Interesting In-teresting to those present Address to the teachers by Professor Talmage as to the methods and theories Tmage they should methos ad practice in schools Teachers he said are sometimes some-times apt to become conceited which should never be the case and with the successful teacher never is In the evening a banquet and ball Including in-cluding an excellent programme were given by the Coalville teachers in shall s-hall in honor of the visitors from Salt Lake and the county outside The entertainment enter-tainment began at S oclock The opening number was a scarf drill by nine young girls from Coalville school under the direction of Principal W l Boyden Vocal duet Stall by Mrs J A Smith and Mrs Lena Thackeray with organ or-gan accompaniment by Miss Brondage Address by Dr Talmage subject Music Mu-sic and the Impressions it Makes and Leaves with interesting and instructive narratives Illustrating them Recitation Roman Chariot Races from Ben Hur by Miss Maud May Ba cock which was highly applauded Following this Hobsons orchestradis course sweet music while the young ladles la-dles who performed the scarf drill prepared pre-pared and served refreshments Dancing followed until 1145 at which time tho evenings entertainment concluded The next meeting of the Institute will bo held one month later probably at Kamas Miss Babcock and Dr Talmage leave for their homes and duties In Salt Lake tomorrow They both express themselves them-selves a having heartily enjoyed their visit to Coalville and the pleasant entertainment enter-tainment given them this being the first visit of Miss Babcock to this place I |
