Show I REPORT FROOil OTIS Indicated That Conditions at fob Were Unchanged Washington Jan 8The war depart ment received another dispatch today from Major General Otis commanding the United States troops in the Philippines The officials observe unusual reticence with respect to its contents but it Is understood un-derstood that the information contained Is not of an unfavorable character or such as to give undue concern to the administration adminis-tration So far as the officials are willing to admit ad-mit the dispatch shows no material change in the conditions existing at the time of previous advices One cabinet officer offi-cer tonight said i contained nothing of a i character alarming serious or exciting There has been no collision with the insurgents in-surgents he added and not a shot has been fired The dispatch however Is believed lieved to have been of sufficient Importance Import-ance to bring to the immediate attention of the president and the latter Secretary Alger Secretary Long and Adjutant General Gen-eral Corbln were in conference for sometime some-time at the White House during the afternoon presumably on that matter The presidents proclamation to the Filipinos had been published in M Pila but General Otis did not say to what extent it had been made known to the inhabitants In-habitants In the other parts of the rrroup of isl311dS nor whether it had been published pub-lished at Iloilo At the latter place General Gen-eral Miller has been directed to land the troops under his command now on th transports there but the dispatch from General Otis did not Indicate whether this had been done Cr not |
