Show ATTHNrARNACLE I Great Audience at the Services Yesterday Yes-terday Afternoon + A NUMBEROF ADDRESSES t HETTJKNBD iBTTSSIOITAIirES TELL OP THEIR WOEK ABROAD AROAD Rulon S Wells Describes the Work I In the European Mission of Which He Was President The Gospel Being Spread As Far East as Turkey Other Speakers + The attendance at the tabernacle services vices yesterday was larger than upon any day since the October conference the body of the house and the choir seats being entirely filled President A l1 Cannon presided The choir sang Were not ashamed to own our Lord and worship him on earth and Elder N V Jones offered prayer The anthem Again we meet around the board of Jesus our redeemIng redeem-Ing Lord was rend re superbly by the choir under Professor Evan Stephens Ste-phens phensTe first speaker was Elder Horace Jenkins returned from Germany He recited the labors attendant upon preparation prep-aration for n foreign mission and bore his testimony that the elders were making friends and converts in i Europe I Eu-rope and that Gods work is going steadily forward I I Fred C Graham counselor to Apostle Apos-tle John W Taylor of the Colorado I mission reported the work of his fe low missionaries in a most encouraging I encourag-ing manner He defined his conversion conver-sion to the faith and spoke of many I manifestations he had received since that time Elder Edwin S Sheets brought mos favorable reports of the work in the I middle and northern states In southern Illinois he said in the I very places where a feu years ago our fathers and mothers were persecuted the hearts of the people are softening T residents there my brethren and sisters are coming to a knowledge of the truth We were received kindly upon every hand Not only did the people once our enemies find places for us to hold our meetings in but they gathered together congregations for us I is a wonderful transformation my friends and is in fulfillment of the words of our beloved prophets In Minnesota the mission is also in a prosperous condition The speaker related re-lated how the elders preached upon street corners in Minneapolis much as the Salvation Army does The elders had the privilege of preaching to some of the wealthiest men of Minnesota and made favorable impressions in every case Elder Rulon S Wells was next introduced in-troduced The text of his remarks was missionary work and what is should be The Latterday Saints have an opportunity to demonstrate by their works their worthiness of Christ Our young men go into the world to preach the gospel not for any monetary consideration con-sideration but purely for the love of God They have t nut been hired to preach they are not even trained for the ministry yet they will convert more of the honest in heart than the silver tongued ministers of the various sects I is because of the spirit of the Lord which is continually hovering over the elder and what a satisfaction it is for us to think of these things when we hear week after week the powerful power-ful testimonies of the returned missionaries mis-sionaries The gospel Is prospering in the Euro pean mission By this it is not meant that thousands are coming into the fold but the gospel is being published to the people not only in Great Britain or I Germany but as far east as Turkey and in the Netherlands This is the prosperity which time work has met the word is being proclaimed in many I tongues Whenever the Lord has wished to perform a great work he has done it I j by raising up a get man a mission i ary in the midst of the eople and we 1 find on every hand evidences of the I work accomplished by the missionary in every age Elder Wells delivered some interesting interest-ing remarks on the principle o faith and detailed further the treatment the elders receive inEuropean cities I beliovc said the speaker that the I German people are becoming more tolerant tol-erant and will before many years throw open their national gates to all religions As many of you know some of our elders have been banished from cities in Germany but we are gaining a fccthold in the land and will push to a successful termination the preaching of the word of God In closing Elder Wells invoked a blessing upon the congregation I con-gregation The choir sang Song of the Redeemed Crosby Benediction by Elder |
