superintendent spoke first upon the advisability of 1 teachers taking up some professional work such as McMurrye General Method and In each founding the work Ito I-to be discussed in an informal manner I andat the general meetings a syllabus of Uie matter treated would be present I td by the superintendent and discussed still farther Mr Cooper would not make such a course obligatory out should time permit he stated that such reading would be very helpful The forthcoming meeting of the State Teachers association was alluded to by Superintendent Cooper who took the I position that it is the duty of every teacher in Utah to attend and give such aid as is necessary to make the meeting I meet-ing a success Economy in the work of teaching formed The theme of a brief address by t9ie superintendent allusion being made I particularly to the work of the pupil the teachers aspect of the subject to be reserved for acme future time All schoolrooms said the speaker should be carefully and thoroughly ventilated When this is not done the pupil becomes restless and uneasy and a waste of energy Is the result In conducting classes the fatigue limit should be carefully observed and daily programmes should be so arranged that the most difficult studies should be taught when the mental and physical vigor of the student is at the highest At 9 oclock in the morning the childs buoyancy is highest After that hftur he loses gradually until 1 oclock when he is in a better condition for studY From that time until about 3 oclock he is again more buoyant and gradually grad-ually loses during Limoln school on Wednesday During the past week Superintendent Van Cott has visited district 24 Murray Mur-ray district 23 Union and districts 2S and 27 Big Cottonwood Five new school buildings have been erected at Gunnison the past summer The Philomathian society composed of the eighth grade at the Sumner school has chosen for its officers Charles Spencer president MissMabel George vice structure struc-ture Colonel Henry H Adams addressed the eiglvth grade at the Grant school oil Thursday and presented to the class a neat flag His speech upon Patriotism Patriot-ism was much enjoyed The response to the presentation of the nag was mtxdo by Miss Qualtrough in a neat little speech Colonel Adams also spoke at the Fremont and Webster schools and gave to each of those schools the Forrester and Ethel Stewart members of the executive committee Friday afternoon the executive committee com-mittee of the Varsity club consisting of the presidents of all the classes met and decided to give a banquet to the class that by the 15th of December had paid up the largest number of membership mem-bership fees This step was taken to secure a large membership at an early date so that the clubs official organ may begin publication The competition competi-tion between the classes of the first four years will be a lively one as these classes are more nearly equal In regards re-gards to
