Marguerite Applesrato Mario Luce and Nora Glcason Salt Lake I City I In the art department ornamental needlework needle-work and plain sewing very creditable exhibits ex-hibits were made by the pupils Limit of space prevents commenting upon the programme which was equally well executed by all the pupils taking part Yet one could not help but notice among the pupils a number of them who illuminated I illumi-nated by the rays of genius shone brightly forth among the glittering stars and gave abundant promise of futures bright and great Those thrilling notes those sparkling spark-ling eyes and sweetly sounding words will as the years roll by bring joy and gladness to many homes and who can tell perhaps to many countries The essays rendered in English German and French gave evidence of much thought and study The subject of the French essay was Upon Application while the German Ger-man subject was taken from the beautiful German adage Elin gut gewissen 1st ein szuiftes ruhekissena clear conscience is a pillow of down When the main exercises had closed and the medal and prizes bad been distributed dis-tributed Miss Shay gracefully stepped upon the platform and delivered as valedictory vale-dictory Earths Treasures It was a fitting piece of work to to close her years spent that school and when ia words of love and gratitude she referred to the lifes wore of Mother Charles many fein fe-in that Y18t assembly caIDedi u and 4 I b ieO tt tLe 1L moist and one was forcibly reminded of those great words slightlytransposed Lives of women meat remind us We can make our own sublime And remaining leave behind us Footprints In the sand or time And as in going through the building in every room and nook and corner her memory became more and more vivid thoughts of sorrow and sadness came and more and more her loss was heartfelt It was not the intention of the writer there t-here give a eulogy of departed Mother Charles yet her strong Individuality which while in life impressed itself upon those who came near her and who by coming near her were batter for it still seems to hold sway among those who had the good fortune to call her friend so let those lines remain a tribute to her work and life May St Marys academy continue to grow and prosper may it continue to bend and train the twigs and branches of mankind man-kind and may the ripening and ripened fruit as leaves its halls free from taint and flaws go forth to all mankind as seed whence naught but good will springS spring-S F |
