Show Severe Storm in lowa WATERLOO la Juno 24 Reports have l been received here by the Illinois Central officials of a terrible wind storm which I prevailed last night along that companys lines from Storm Lake to Lemars a distance dist-ance of fiftysix miles The towns were considerably damaged Four persons were drowned at Cherokee and four at Correc tionville The railroad depot at Calumet was blown down and much damage to town property is reported Sutherland OBrien I county a small station on he Northwestern North-western road five miles from Calumet is reported wiped out over forty buildings being blown down The wires are all down and it is impossible to obtain accurate information except through reports transmitted trans-mitted to the railroad officials and these are not always accesible Reports continue to be received confirmatory confirm-atory of the disastrous storm and flood alone the Illinois Central Cherokee was visited Dy another storm this morning fully as disastrious though not of as long duration dura-tion as last night The Illinois Central bridge about two hundred and fifty feet long across the Littlo Sioux at Cherokee went down tinder the rush ot the flood this after ternoon together with several houses in the lower part of town Reports of the drowning of lenr persons at Cherokee and four at Correctionville are confirmed by a dispatch from Superintendent Gillease of II the Iowa division who is at the scene of the disaster Aurelia and Cherokee both reported another storm breaking at 430 p m |
