Show I THE MOUNT PLEASANT FLOOD Not So Bad as Reported Tho Facts of the Disaster An esteemed correspondent at Mount Pleasant Utah thinks the report of the flood at that place sent to THE HERALD was exaggerated and sends in the following follow-ing particulars The flood wus confined to Pleasant creek the center stream of the three that supply our water for city use Located on this creek within the city limits are nine bridges Of this number we had three removed from their foundation so as to render them impassable and in three hours after theflood teams were using the other bridges and streets It is true that on some of the streets and lots where the passage of the driftwood drift-wood that came downirom the mountains was obstructed that it accumulated in quantities But in fortyeight hours after the flood the water was flowing through small ditches and our people are able at all times to locate the streets and lot boundaries Mr Stringham the photographer has his office in our city and was here doing business at the time as he is now It is a fact that on the day following the flood business was conducted in our city as actively as though wo had no flood We all feelhat we have sustained a severe loss froi the flood and that it was one of those visitations that was unavoidable unavoid-able and that our misfortune does not make the frequent visitations of like disasters dis-asters any less to our sister city of Manti On our part we sympathise with her as our one visitation of the storm flood reminds us favorably of her frequent losses and suffering from like causes This explanation is made lest a wrong report re-port should do an injury to the circulation circula-tion of our grand old Democratic HERALD I am yours for truth and justice W P S Our new postmaster M G Ralph will take charge the office today W |
