Important Im-portant Change Contemplated r i by City Railway Company Tho individual who has boon been making the offers to the chamber of commerce has at last como out with a fiatfooted proposition that to say the I least demands everything in sight and perhaps a little more The proposition which is published below asks from the citizens of Salt Lake 1 a right of way through the city 2 at Main and Ninth South South five acres more or less for depot accommodations 3 twenty acres for the shops roundhouses round-houses etc 4 land worth 525000 near the grounds on which the chops are situated 5 running west to Third or Second East street then north to Ninth South street then west to Sixth or Seventh West street then southwest south-west to city limits Whore the line crosses Main street they would want for depot purposes a tract 150 feet wide on the north side of Ninth South street commencing ate State street and running j west to West Temple street this tract toe to-e used for side track and depot purposes They will want the same privileges granted them for tracks to other railroad depots as are given other companies They will want shop round house and yard grounds either in the west part of the city or near where they enetr the city That will require about two blocks of ground and would want to be located suitably for purposes intended The bonus above right of way and building grounds would be the Fort block on Second West between Third and Fourth South streets and a f25000 twentyfive thousand dollar bonus when the road is completed from Chalk Creek coal fields to Salt Lake city Then when the road is completed to the coast they aM to receive 50000 cash bonus and 525000 worth of real estate adjacent the shop fP grounds For the above described privileges and bonuses the proposition meets with your approval ap-proval we will be pleased to hear from you at an early date and meet you and make the necessary agreement of carrying carry-ing out the work 1 am most respectfully respect-fully yours ALMOST HALL The signer of the letter is known to a number of Salt Lakers but no one can say they have any knowledge of the fact that he is backed by a New York company com-pany In fact one man who has seen him in Coalvilie says that he has been making extravagant claims in that direction One claim is that he has surveyed sur-veyed five routes between Coalville and Salt Lake and that he has one route which requires only a one ana a half percent per-cent grade However the chamber of commerce has asked Mr Hall to give his proof of his statements and will take V action only when they are satisfied that he can deliver the goods d STilUCK HI THE 31OTOB Jean Davier a Frenchman Killed on Sunday The Inquest Jean Davier a Frenchman aged about 38 years was struck by a motor on the Great Salt Lake Hot Springs road on Sunday morning receiving injuries from which he died shortly afterwards It seems that Davier wh was rather deaf was walking along die track towards tow-ards the Hot Springs between 11 and 12 oclock when the train came along John Gibbons the engineer saw the man and whistled Davier apparently heard the signal and turning around stepped off the track and the engineer r supposed the man would get out of the way He did not do so however and as it was too late to stop the train he was struck in the back and badly mangled Tho injured man was brought back to this city on the train but died a few minutes min-utes after reaching the depot and the body was taken to Skewes undertaking establishment Coroner Taylor held an inquest yesterday yester-day morning Daniel Dunne Daniel Camomile and A S Post being sworn as jurors After listening to the testimony d of the engineer conductor and passengers passen-gers they returned a verdict setting forth that the killing was wholly accidental Davier had lived in Bait Lake about P four months and it is believed that he was unmarried He worked for J H Bacon on the Sanitarium trench and also at street paving IDs acquaintances i say he was a sober and industrious man A gentleman who came back on tho train which bore Davier to this city says that the treatment of the injured man at the depot was nothing short of inhuman There was no one to receive him and d after his arrival the individual in charge telephoned to the police station for the t i C Black Maria and but for the protest is s of our informant the dying man would have been loaded into it and carted off like a drunkard A carriage was finally sent for but before it reached the depot Bavier had breathed his last Tho Cache Valley Excursion t The Union Pacific officials promise that their excursion from Cache valley points to Salt Lake and Garfield beach will be the banner excursion of the season It will probably be the only excursion from points north during the season which K in connection with the very low rates A the special train service and the long limit on the tickets will probably result re-sult in inducing a great number of northern north-ern people to take advantage of the opportunity op-portunity to visit tho popular lake resort re-sort and the capital 1 City Railway Change Many have been wondering why the City Railway Company is putting in son so-n many switches on the corner of Second South andMain streets The explanation = comes in the guise of a statement that t ths corner is ultimately to become the downtown headquarters of the company Even now all the car crews make their chances on that corner and in time the tarter And telephone will be moved down JThe Tabernacle Choir It is p > identbod ° that the Tabernacle 0 0 Z iJ choir will go to Chicago over the Union Pacific and that the train will consist of the very finest Pullman sleepers The train will be so large that it will probably proba-bly be run in two sections Good time will be made |
