Show HOUSE DECOllATlISG Description of a Unique and Beautiful Bit of WorkHouse Work-House decorating when properly done is an art worthy the consideration of all housekeepers With a little expense and artistic ability a house can be made to present a most charming appearance The most unique piece of decorating that has come under our notice is in the home of a prominent society lady of this city and a partial description of thesame will perhaps prove of interest to our lady readers The frpnt hal is the room selected by these ladies to display their genius and the decorations consist of sea weeds ferns shells and our native cat tails Upon the triangular panel under the stairway these materials are fastened in irregular ir-regular but artistic fashion Commencing Com-mencing with the smaller ferns at the lower angle they are arranged in avery a-very picturesque style The cat tails and sea grass are tied in bunches with delicate colored ribbons and forms a relief picture that is very attractive Upon the walls are hung many relics collected from the Sandwich Islands such as pieces of bark which the natives use for cloth odd musicalinstrument fans etc The most novel of the wall decorations are necklaces watch chains and a number of other contrivances made by threading seeds on strings that gives them the appearance of lace On the carpet close to the mop board are scattered shells minature Hawaiian huts and quaint bricabrac The collection in itself is of great value and arranged as i is in this novel manner man-ner the decorators may indeed feel proud of the result of their work and extreme ex-treme patience R DEL HARRISON |
