Show THE ADULTERERS SENTENCED i William Logan Gets Three Months and His Paramour One Month t William Logan and Elizabeth Neil son the pair who on Saturday last plead guilty to an indictment for adultery adul-tery were next called upon to stand up for judgment Attorney J H Harris told the court that on behalf of the defendants he desired de-sired to say a few words in the hope of possibly mitigating the sentence which the court might feel disposed to pass Mrs Neilson had for several years resided at Richfield Sevier county and was the mother of two children aged respectively J about three and flveyears According to the statement made to him the womans husband was a man of very stern and jealous and somewhat cruel disposition Three or four months ago he got into a c jealous rage and assailed his will in a very severe manner knocking her down and causing one of her teeth to fall out Taking t Tak-ing the youngest child with her she fled c from home and came to Salt Lake where she obtained employment order to support sup-port herself and little child When she had been in the city about three months the accidentally met the defendantLogan who was a playmate of hers in childhood At the time she left home the was enceinte and such was her condition now Becoming very ill she had to relinquish i re-linquish work and it was at this juncture that the meeting between these parties took place When Logan learned of the circumstances he suggested that Mrs 1 Neilson should go and live with him and she did so Counsel said that to his mind this was a very different case from one wherein a woman left her husband without provocation In this instance the husband had treated her improperly There was nothing wilful or premeditated pre-meditated on the part of either of the defendants de-fendants but the path of vice was made easy by the wrongful act of another Mr Harris hoped the court would extend clemency in consideration of these facts In reply to the courtLogan said he was 24 years of age and when arrested had been living with Mrs Neilson since last June He was an unmarried man and by t trade coot Mrs Neilsou stated that she was 22 Her husband had oneof the children with him in Logan and she had the care of the younger This was according to her husbands hus-bands suggestion She supported herself her-self as long as she was able after leaving home by doing chamber work and cooking cook-ing at a boarding house judge Zane sentenced Logan to three months imprisonment penitentiary and Mrs Neilson to one month The female defendant wont bitterly while her attorney was addressing the court and seemed to feel her position deeply The Alleged Bullion Thief The trial of Charles W Ladd for stealing steal-ing bullion from the Dily mine at Park City was set for Sept 28 Judge Hender son will defend the prisoner |
