Show ANOTHER SIDE TO THE STORY Fireman Liberty Confesses and Other Arrests Are Made CALUMET Mich Sept 18 George Liberty the locomotive fireman who was lately discharged from the Dnluth South Shore Atlantic railway has been arrested He is supposed to be the man who handled the throttle on the engine at the time of the train robbery on Fri tme Fr day He is claimed to have made a confession con-fession implicating King and his companions com-panions and Express Messenger Hogan Liberty told the officers the money was contained in a trunk which he shipped from Houghton to Marquette Saturday morning The trunk was found by the officers but the money was not there Hogan the express messenger messen-ger was arrested last night in this city A special from Marquette Mar-quette says six other besides Liberty and Hogan are under arrest and a large portion of the money has been recovered Liberty has been associated with Butler King Chettew and other hard characters alleged to be implicated in the robbery Soon after his arrest he made a clean breast of the whole affair He is in the Marquette jail The entire plot was hatched here The police have arrested John and Michael Shea saloon keepers Moses Longtine brakeman on the passenger train Tom Winter baggageman D W Hogan express ex-press messenger on the Mineral Range train Ed Hogan bartender and Wesley Shoup a hackdrivcr |
