Show THE CHOIR CONCERT A Splendid Entertainment at the Tabernacle Tab-ernacle Last Sight Addresses of Welcome by Gov West Mayor Bnskin and C W Pcnroso Prof Stephens Response The reception accorded the Tabernacle choir last night was a fitting recognition of the magnificent work done by our singers in the east The audience that welcomed them back was about as large as the one that attended attend-ed the farewell concert given two days before the choirs departure and the enthusiasm en-thusiasm was unbounded The entertainment gave a fair idea ao to what the great contest in Chicago was like and the choir sane with a vim and spirit never beard before After the opening chorus Hon John T Caine in a few well chosen remarks introduced Governor West who in a brief but eloquent address outlined what the choir had done in the east and in behalf of the whole territory warmly welcomed them home again Mayor Baskin was next introduced and he received an ovation His honor congratulated con-gratulated the choir upon the victory achieved in Chicago and said that the perfection per-fection which the divine art had reached here was an index of the civilization of the people and it gave him great pleasure in behalf of the municipalty to welcome them back The last address of welcome was made by C W Penrose whose effort was a happy one He traced the growth of the choir from the old days gave credit to the former leaders for their work and complimented Professor Stephens upon the success that had crowned his untiring efforts efors Professor Stephens responded for the choir and when he arose the applause was so hearty that it was several minutes before he could make himself heard When quiet was finally restored he mado a very modest reply in which he thanked the public for the warm support given him and said that it would be his constant con-stant aim to attain higher perfection with the choir The feature of the entertainment of course was the work of the choir and every number was rendered in magnificent mag-nificent style E C Easton created a furore with one of his popular ballads and was twice recalled giving Annie Laurie and Oh My Father Mrs Agnes Olsen Thomas sang in costume cos-tume a Norwegian ballad and won a tumultuous tu-multuous recall recal Lizzie Thomas Edwards Welsh ballad was a gem and pleased the great audience audi-ence immensely Horace Ensign jr sang Dudley Bucks Come Where the Lindens Bloom with exquisite feeling and was forced to bow his acknowledgements Another gem was the prison scene from II Trovatore by Mrs Pugsley and Thomas Ashworth and the choir Mr Ashworth was suffering from a cold but did exceedingly well while Mrs Pugsley fairly eclipsed herself The closing number The Star Spangled Span-gled Banner was given by the choir the audience joining in the chorus During the evening a meritorious poem by H W Naiabett entitled The Return of the Victors was read by Thomas Hull andE H Pierce read some appropriate appro-priate resolutions returning thanks to individuals in-dividuals and companies for favors extended ex-tended here and in the east W EWeihe who was down for a violin solo was indisposed could not appear Tho Cocoon Toilet Specialties Are attracting the favorable attention of the public because of the excellence of the articles and the beneficial effects tc all who are using them The general satisfaction satis-faction given is resulting in a large increase in-crease of sales and every one is commending commend-ing the Cocona preparations For sale by GodbePitts Co and J B Farlow |
