Show I A LibiMl Application That was n naive and characteristic plea of W E SMEDLETS before the board of i education He Dad learned that the school buildings are to be insured and desiring to turn an honest penny ho applied as an agent for an insurance company for a share in tho policy profits That was all right and in tho straight lIne of business It showed commendable diligence on his part yartBut But the reason assigned why he or his company should be preferred is what occasions oc-casions comment It Is not because ho claims to represent the best company or anything of that sort that ho wants to in cure the school buildings but because he is a Liberal and has contributed liberally liber-ally to tee Liberal cause This has been reason enough why certain applicants for appointment for work under un-der city officials has been granted SSIED LET therefore naturally supposed that it would be the most potent reason he could present to effect his purpose He probably did not reflect that there are gentlemen on the board who are not Liberals and therefore that they would bo compelled to vote against his application because of its fraternal natura Or if ne did he probably thought that the majority would be on his side and therefore the opposition op-position wouldnt count We shall see whether the Board of Education Edu-cation will accept tho overtures of Mr SMEDLET and take out policies in the company com-pany he represents on the grounds that ho is a Liberal and has contributed liberally to the Liberal cause It so that will not help much to forward the nonpartisan movement in tho coming school board election |
