| Show THE BETTER WAY It will largely depend upon the recently installed city council whether or not the entire community shall pull together for the good of the city or there shall be a pulling apart to the certain detriment of the municipality The defeat of one political politi-cal party at the polls the other day did not lessonthe interest of the defeated in Salt Lake They are here to stay quite as much as they were before the votes were counted and the welfare and prosperity of the city will be sought by them with just as much zeal as though their candidates for municipal offices had been elected It seems to us that the successful party and the successful candidates if they are really interested ill Salt Lake as they claim to be will do what they can to harmonize discordant discord-ant elements and bring all to work for what should be the common causethe good of the city We say it will depend largely upon the council whether or not there will be harmonious working If the council will show by wise acts that it is really desirous that Salt Lake shall be well governed and prosperous the People will forget their defeat and strengthen the hands of their victors The People think more of good government for the city than they do of officeholding They will be just as progressive as the occasion demands they will sanction every im proveinent that wisdom suggests they will cheerfully bear their full share of any public pub-lic burden Now will it not be better to consult them somewhat as to what should be done and how Will it not be far better to have all classes of bona fide citizens working with some degree of harmony for the citys welfare than to have one half of the public pub-lic squarely antagonistic to the other half We think it will and hope the council will agree with us in which event the two years of this administration will be marked by much greater progress than will be recorded re-corded to its credit if there shall be the constant fight which some would like to see |
