Show A COLLISION An Electric Car Crashes into a Delivery Wagon Another frightful collision of an electric car with a delivery wagon occurred ou Main street yesterday at dusk The wagon was going south and the driver not knowing that he was closely followed by a streetcar street-car drew his horses to cross tho track togo to-go up Fourth South street There was a blinding snowstorm and it was so dark that the motorman did not seo the wagon nutil he was within the width of a street nnt to it The car was coming full tilt at that lightning speed which they run down the steep grade and it looked as if a crash was certain The wagoner lashed his beast and tho motorman put on his brako until tho wheels slid ou the rails but tho car crashed into the hind wheels of the wagon throwing it around so that the horse which had been going down street was going up street when the car came to a stop The motorman was to blame as he gave no warning by ringing the bell on approaching the street and was running at a speed that is dangerous to life and property prop-erty The negligence on the part of motor men in sounding the alarm at a safe distance before coming to a crossing is daily becoming more notorious This accident ac-cident could not have happened if the bell had been sounded far enough back to give the wagoner a fair warning The street railway company will save many thousand dollars damages by vigorous vigor-ous ringing of the alarm bell several I hundred feot before the car gets to the crossing There is no use rincing the boll when a man has no chance to get out of the way In the case mentioned no alarm was sounded at all as the motorman was kept too busy with his brake to get D single stroke at the bell |
