Show ON LOGANS POLITICS The Queen City of the North Imitating Imi-tating Salt Lake THE BAD FEELING DISAPPEARING do Explanation TYliat lIre Merrill SaysA Ratification Hectlnc Political Music Drum Corps Tho political atmosphere is clearing Personal explanations between the parties to disagreements illustrate the profound truth of the story of the three black crows and the assertions picked up by one and passed from mouth to mouth by many are very different assertions when they reach a distant car from what they were when started out 011 their tortuous journey The acrimonious feeling is wholly disappearing and while all is not yet well there is so much of a better feeling that the heart ot the Liberal who looked for and trusted there might be a serious split is traveling in the direction of his boots at a2 1035 gait TUB FIRST RALLY The voters of the First municipal ward comprising the Sixth Seventh and First bishops wards met in the basement of the Tabernacle on Monday night to hold the first of a series of ratification meetings The night was a very disagreeable one Despite this fact there was a very fair attendance at-tendance and considering the character of the building the applause was liberal indeed in-deed The best of order was maintained The meeting was called to order by R W Sloan of the municipal central committee Hon John E Carlisle in the absence of Dr Ormsby chairman of the committee was made chairman The speeches were short pithy and pertinent Mr Farr candidate can-didate for marshal keeping the audience convulsed with laughter whilo on his feet Candidate for mayor L D Haines made a short speech promising if elected he would do his duty by every man in the city no matter what his politics or religion Tributes Trib-utes to Mr Haines worth were paid by Chairman Carlisle and L > R Martineau The other speakers were Andreas Petersen Peter-sen George Thatcher J A Leishman Dr J M Tanner Fred Turner George W Lufkin H E Hatch and H W Sloan On motion the meeting unanimously favored the organization of political clubs A motion expressing confidence in the outgoing i out-going and the incoming councils also received re-ceived a hearty vote With good feelin sand s-and after an hour and a halfs short speeches the meeting adjourned AN EXPLANATION In its last issue the Jburnil referred to Mr Petersen as having said he would run on the ticket as a number of his friends had assured him the Fourth ward wanted him The fact is the friends of Mr Petersen Peter-sen made the statement to the Journal reporter re-porter and not Mr Petersen at alL WHAT MR MERRILL SAYS Mr F Merrill was quoted as having intimated in-timated in the meeting in the Firemans hall that he favored a whole change in the ticket Mr Merrill says he did not mean to convey any such idea nor did those who heard him speak at the meeting so understand under-stand him He made the remark simply to show if a man as strong as Mr Haines were objectionable the whole ticket needed revision as there were several on it much weaker in his judgment than Mr Haines The Journal reporter Is free to admit that Mr Merrill strongly opposes any split Jl RATIFICATION MEETING The ratification meeting announced to beheld be-held in the Faith ward on Friday will take place on Thursday night instead This change brings the Fourth ward meeting on Friday night instead of Thursday as heretofore here-tofore announced POLITICAL MUSIC The boys of the firemans band have volunteered vol-unteered to give the Peoples partymusic on the streets during the week to help out the times AND NOW THE DELUGE Drum corps will be organized among the different clubs many of the young men desiring de-siring to belong to themJournal |
