Show r aU TIlE PUBLIC BUILDING If the Rouse of Representatives shall cut own the appropriation for a federal build iC 1 i at Salt Lake city to 200000 our people > K > vld act promptly They should unite in in earnest request that no appropriation the object named be made by this Con ii < ss and if it shall be deemed necessary I et us send a delegation to Washington to lobby against the passage of the tin We will be much better off with ao federal building than with such an in bigniCcant structure as is proposed Whatever What-ever is given will have to suffice for long years If it be only a hundred thousand dollar building that will be all we can expect ex-pect for fifteen or twenty years for when vego to Congress with another appeal we will be met with the statement that Salt Lake has been provided for and nothing more can be done until other cities have boon looked after Salt Lake has waited a good many years and she can wait two years longer if it shall be necessary We can better afford to wait five years more than get something that is not wanted and which will be an annoyance and eyesore for all time It was discouraging when the Senate committee reduced the sum asked for 100000 making the total 100000 The cost of the site being taken out of this amount would leave none too much for a building such as the city demands To further reduce the sum to 200000 fully onehalf of which wouldhave to be paid for a site makes the proposition to erect a government building here seem ridiculous in the extreme It will be easier to defeat the bill than to pass it and let us defeat rather than have itgo through for such a paltry sum The next Congress may have Some idea of the ize and prospects of Salt Lake |
