Show THE MASONIC EXPOSURE The fellow TROTVBIUDGE who undertook to expose Masonry as related in our telegrams Friday morning did well to disappear dis-appear and he will do well to continue out of sight of men We do not mean by this that he is in any danger of violence at the hand of Masons The fraternity is not what it once was in the matter of punishing punish-ing those who violate itsoaths nor is the public temper what if once was as to Masonry The MORGAN affair had its effect on the order in a restraining way and the public is blessed with a larger degree of common sense than it once had Masons have learned that they have no right to I punish for a violation of their oaths they r have learned that the obligation is simply a moral one between the I one who takes it and his conscience con-science and that no legal penalty for breaking it can be imposed The public has also learned that the man who will take the oath who will accept the obligation and then violate the solemn promise breaking his word is not to be relied upon He is not trustworthy He is a scoundrel and traitor and is believed be-lieved only by those who are eager to believe be-lieve Hence wo say TKOWBIUDGE does well to get out of sight He should forever for-ever hide hIs identity and never let any 1 body know what a depraved wretch he is and how unworthy the respect of his fellow men he has become He can be despised des-pised by Masons not much more than by honest people generally for honest persons despise a traitor no matter to what cause he may be false As to the exposure of Masonry what I wouldthat amount to anywayl Suppose I i that all the oaths and ceremonies were given to the public who would be injured i I or < beneBtedl Nobody Half the people I I would refuse to believe andthe other half wouldnt care It is of no concern to the average man that another man is pleased to belong to a society the initiation to which is accomplished through riding a frisky II goat being cast into dark and noisome pits and m1king solemn vows in regard to the internal economy of the human body It is of the least possible consequence to the ordinary or-dinary individual in this age whether other individuals are Masons or something else or nothing else in the way of society membership All the public is interested in knowing is that the society is not criminal crim-inal in its intentions and operations The Masonic order has pretty well established the fact throughout the world that it is not oa criminal organization and if every other Mason were to turn traitor to his order and to his oaths and fall to abusing Masonry there would simply be a demonstration demon-stration of the fact that half the men who were admitted to the order were scoundrels who didnt understand the sacred nature of an oath and were unworthy the esteem and confidence of their fellows Masonry would not be affected by the withdrawals and denunciations except as to the traitors themselves |
