Dispatch NEW YORK Feb 27The following is the full text of the will of John Jacob Astor New Yorks wealthiest citizen I John Jacob Astor ot the city of Now York do hereby make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament 1I give and bequeath to my friend Alexander Hamilton now residing at or near Irving ton the sum of 30000 2I give and bequeath the following legacies namely To the corporation known as St Lukes hospital 5100000 to the corporation known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art 350000 to the corporation known as the New York Cancer hospital 100000 to my cousin James Simmons Armstrong 50OCO aI give to the corporation known as the Trustees of the AstorLibrary from my personal estate the sum of 4100000 to be paid at the expiration ex-piration two years from my death and to bo invested and kept invested by said corporation In any stocks or securities or property of any other description whatever either real or personal per-sonal lu the discretion of the trustees of the said corporation styled The Trustees of the AstorLibrary and I will and direct that tho net income of the said fund 5100000 from time to time be applied to and be expended in the purchase of books to be added to the library and not to be used for the payment of or for the increase of the salaries of officers or employees nor for the purchase of furniture or other current expenses nor for any other purpose than the purchase of or binding of books And I will ana declare that the special spec-ial declaration above contained in this third article ar-ticle in relation to the investment of s1d bequest be-quest as a permanent fund and the application of the income thereof as aforesaid are not to bo so construed as to create any trust not legally permissible nor so as to impair tne legal ownership and control of the fund and its income and proceeds by the corporation as fully as may bo legally necessary to the validity of the bequest to it of the bum aforesaid 4I give and bequeath to the said corporation known as the Trustees of the Astor Library the further um of 50000 and I request that this sum be by said corporation invested as a permanent perma-nent fund and that the net income thereof be applied ap-plied to paying the trustees of said corporation trom time to time fees or allowances for attending attend-ing the meetings of such trustees at the rate ot Ito for each attending trustee at each meeting and that if such payment shall be inadequate authority Is hereby given so as to permit the raising the rate of such regular reg-ular fees and allowances and the payment thereof out of the rate of such regular fees or allowances as may be made from time to time by resolution of the board of directors to such extent as they in their discretion may deem tit and as the net income of the fund without touching upon the capital of it may suffice to pay 5All the rest residue and remainder of the property and estate as well real as personal and wheresoever clubs and drawing rooms of the town have been very much interested during the past few days over the announcement made apparently on good authority that Miss Mabel Wright who is held by some people to be the most beautiful woman in New York has become engaged to Ferdinand Yznaga at one time brottierinlaw of W K Vanderbilt Miss Wright is a tall girl a perfect blonde of the Scandinavian type and she can count her admirers by the score Her family curiously enough has never been identified with the swell society in which she has during three or four years cut so prominent a figure When she was introduced at thePatriarchsball about ISSoj no one knew much about her but her unusual un-usual beauty made so great an impression that the lack of aristocracy connections was very promptly passed over Ferdinand Yznagii is a brother of Lady Mandeville nee Consuela Yznaga About ten years ago he married Mary Virginia Smith more familiarly known as Connie Smith sister of Mrs W K Vanderbilt and sistea also of Mimi Smith who is at present occupied in securing a divorce from her husband Baron de Fontenilliat The married life of the Yznagas was not particularly happy Some three years ago Mrs Yznaga went to California in a private pri-vate car furnished by W K Vanderbilt and secured divorce the proceedings not meeting with any opposition from Mr Yznaca Mrs Yznaga afterwards married George Tiffany a grandson ot Commodore Perry and a nephew of Mrs August Belmont and at one tune secretary of the American legation at Vienna Per dinand Yznaga has been for some years party to the house of P B Hollins Co This firm represented W K Vanderbilt in Wall street when Vanderbilt was operating operat-ing in stocks Yzuaga is said now to be worth all the way from five hundred thousand thou-sand to one million dollars It is understood under-stood he has been of important financial assistance to his sister Lady Mandeville and another sister also who married an Englishman The story in society is that Lady Mandeville is very much opposed to her brother marrying Miss Wright |
