Show A Severe Storm in Chicago CHICAGO July 27It was reported late tonight that a house on Twentythird street was blown down during a severe vfnd and rain storm which prevailed fur ng the early part of the evening and a umber of people killed It was one of the heaviest rainfalls ever known in this sec tion of tl e country and did thousands of dollars worth of damage in the city tonight to-night The storm cloud came from the north vesf and meeting contrary < urrents of air hovered over the city for two hours and a lulf nnally passing ne th rest The rain > epan about 030 and continued in blinding sleets till 9 I oclock The violence of the w iud at times almost reached the fury of a ternado In two hours and fifteen a inutjs there was a phenominal r infall of four and a half inches and basements and cellars were n > o ed all over the city some tu a depth of three or four feet The water rushed own the incline into the La S itie street tunnel until it reached a depth of over three feet in the centre completely inter upting for a time traffic on the cable carsOn cars-On the west side a tree was blown down on a passing street car crushing up the passengers > but injuring none seriously In he outskirts of the city several houses were struck by lightning the occupants icing badly shaken up and scared but soar so-ar as known no one was killed It is just learned that during the height of the storm an unfinished building in process pro-cess of construction at the corner of twentyfirst and Leavitt streets was blown down completely demolishing a frame cottage that stood beside it Eight persons > were killed outright and three badly wounded Thekilled are Mrs Amelia Buck 69 years old Annie Buck 8 years old Albert Buck 0 years old Cornelius ierdinnartier blacksmith 33 years old Mrs Arika Ferdinnacher his wife 31 years old and Cora Allida and Leo their children aced respectively 5 3and 1 years The wounded are Charles Buck husband of Mrs Amelia Buck Eula Ferdinaacher and Ada Ferdinnacher |
