Show Waiting for the Railroad In the eastern and southern parts of Nevada says the Enterprise many fine mines are now lying idle for want of means of transportation Old timers knew of many such mines indeed whole districts of them Following is a single instance A man named Ogden mined at Mineral city Robinson district fifteen years ago and built and operated a furnace But it cost 20 a ton to wagon his bullion to Eureka and 35 per ton to transport it to market So 00ore with charcoal at 30 cents a bushel and these monstrous transportation trans-portation charges wouldnt pay 11 Ogden patented his mine and left for a better country pending the arrival of a railroad We are making all manner of experiments looking to the cheap working of ores in order that our vast deposits of low grade material may be handled to a profit it would be well to try leaching Of late great improvements have been made in leaching so great that it is almost a new process Some of our ores may be worked to profit and advantage by the use of concentrating machines but these machines will not save chlorides I is now claimed that by leaching ores are worked to a higher per cent and much cheaper than by pan process A great saying say-ing would be Linade in driving power Leaching works are being put up in Utah Colorado and many other mining regions regons |
