Show The Anaconda Fire The recent fire at Anaconda by which the great smelter was destroyed will prove a severe blow to Butte and the country surrounding sur-rounding There is but little doubt but the fire was of incendiary origin The Inter Jountatn says The preparations of tho company to provide against such accidents are most elaborate Fire patrols are constantly con-stantly the watch material to fight fire is constantly within reach and the best possible defenses against a conflagration are provided There exists more than an idle suspicion that the destruction of the smelter was the result of a wellpaid and carefully executed plan The smelter was entirely new the north section of it having been completed only about ten days ago The result of the fire will undoubtedly be a very serious interruption of the plans of the Anaconda company as it practically suspends for tho present all operations at Carroll Telegrams were at once sent from Butte asking for instructions in regard to the mines and word was received from Marcus Dalj that arrangements should be made for closing down tho mine The ore houses are all full and there is an extra supply on hand in Anaconda The great smelter lias been using 2500 tons of ore each day and the stoppage of the Carroll I plant will curtail this consumption at least onehalf |
