Show CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS HOME A Stirring Letter from Admiral Porter on the Subject v NEW YORK March 10The citizens committee com-mittee to aid the Confederate soldiers home at Houston Texas today received a letter from Admiral Porter in which he saysConfederate Confederate veterans nre as of yore our fellow countrymen and in regard to a Hostile feeling between northern and southern south-ern soldiers the latter have long since forgotten for-gotten it Out of the conflicts sprang many good qualities which we might otherwise not have possessed humanity sympathy and magnanimous feelings toward those who warred against the Union The north is full of prosperity and the south under the new order of things i rapidly rap-idly following in her footsteps The stars shine brilliantly for us all and having secured se-cured perpetuation of the union it behooves be-hooves us of the north to assist those who are now overwhelmed with adversity This is the best way to make n united country There should be no north no south but one nation over which the stars and stripes should wave forever Colonel Robert Ingersoll will deliver a lecture to aid the fund at the Ali emy of Music on March 26 |
