Show DEATH OF A REAR ADMIRAL Commander Dyer Gives the Account of the Demise of Chandler WASHINGTON March 16In a communication communi-cation dated Hong Kong February 13 Commander N M Dyer of the United States steamer Marion informs the navy department in detail of the circumstances attending the death of Rear Admiral Ralph Chandler which occurred on February 11 at 915 p mOn m-On the morning of thtt day Admiral Chandler seemed to be in his usual health and made a call upon Sir G W Desnoux governor of Hong Kong While at the governors house ho complained of dizziness and intense pain in he head but declined the earnest offer of the governor to take a bedroom at the house where he could receive every care Ho insisted on returning to the Hong Kong hotel where physicians were called in who found his right side to be paralyzed He fell into a state of unconsciousness in which he remained until his death The remains were deposited in the recerr ng vault at the British naval hospital and were to be interred in Happy Valuri cemetery ceme-tery on the 13th of February Commander Dyer says it is the desire of he family that the remain be removed to ho United States in a man ofwar after the lapse of a year By virtue of his rank Captain F B Mc tfair commanding the Omaha will succeed to the command of the squadron until re eived by Commodore Belknap |
