Show J WITSHlGIHfifRSE The High and Might Tribune wants an Apology from the Theatre Management A reporter of TilE HERALD sat in the box office at the Theatre last night busily transcribing his notes when a messenger from the Tribune office appeared I ap-peared at the window and handed back the four tickets sent that paper to the Kate Castleton performance Later on it was learned from Mr Adams agent of the tragedian Sheridan and Mr Harris doorkeeper the house who had gone to the Tribune office to ask an explanation that the Mightinesses of that sheet were highly licensed not so much at their reporter being denied admission to the Mapleson performance as THE HEEALDS coming to know of it It was in vain that it was shown the Grand Seignors that it was Mapleson and not the Theatre that was responsible they replied that the management must have informed THE HERALD of their reporter being refused the truth is that a HERALD man learned it from one of the Mapleson company and jMr McKenzie we believe as he last night said knew nothing of the affair until he saw it in THE HERALD next morning and they declined even so much as mentioning the Salt Lake Theatre until the management Mr McKenzie in the absence of Messrs Clawson and Caine came down ilt and apologized Sheridans agent anempiea to snow tne supreme tuners that his show ought not to be slighted for anything they might have against the Theatre management but it was all in vain they demanded an apology and declined to make mention of Sheridan until it was tendered It will be interesting to note who yields first in this little trouble The Theatre management will do an extremely ex-tremely foolish thing if it gets down on its knees to the Arrogant Nincompoops who think they sway the local universe The fact is becoming pretty well established estab-lished that the Tribune as a theatrical authority is nil and it is entirely safe to sav that patrons of amusements amuse-ments will not abstain from attending at-tending the Theatre in any great body from the mere fact of the Tribune ignoring the house besides that we have always maintained and reiterate it now thatin Salt Lake City the Tribune has no material circulation off the business busi-ness streets where all the oilier papers and especially TUE HERALD also have an extensive subscription list The theatre the-atre cares nothing tor mining towns in Idaho and Montana Another feature too that will be apt to bring the Lordly Viziers to their senses is that the readers read-ers will be rather likely to resent the exclusion ex-clusion of theatrical news from the columns col-umns of the paper At all events and at any rate we venture ven-ture to say whether the Tribune does or dees not notice the theatre that the diminution in the patronage will not amount to so much as the paltry sum paid the sheet for the advertisement |
