Show By CINDY ZESIGER "Cats take state in 78." And that's just what they're doing too. In everything. VARSITY basketball is the main attraction and spirit builder this week at Woods Cross! At the game last Tuesday the Cats tilted the score in their favor against Logan, the so called "number one" team, with a total of -Logan 65 WX 69. " , v This game determined where the Cats stood in state championship, placing us tied for third with Ogden but through tough decision the Cats settled for fourth place. TUESDAY, the 14th, the Cats will play the Region 6 number 2 team, American Fork, at Weber State College, Dee Event Center at 6:30. This game was a very tough game. Coach Wayne Baker comments, "We feel really good about going to state tournament in our first attempt. at-tempt. It says a lot for the caliber of kids that we have. We are going into the tournament tour-nament with the attitude that we can win, if we win all power to us, if we lose it was a great year and watch out next year." In girls basketball the girls did really well. They placed third in state, because of a sad loss against Bear River by only one point. THE GIRLS had a real good season, and are for sure going to take first next year. Coach Debbie Peele along with all the studentbody here at WX, are very proud of the outgoing girls. Woods Cross' swimming "Cat Fish" also hold a title in state competition. The Cat Fish snagged a strong 7th place out of 15 tough competitors. compe-titors. FAST Don Donaldson placed three times, Troy Banford, Scott Sapenfield and Harold Donaldson also placed, working together the boys relay raced into third place. Coach Dan Maroney. the leader of the Cat Fish feels that "the season was very successful, and I am extremely proud of the effort the boys put forth, we are all anxious for next year." Keep flapping your fins Cat Fish. OUR gymnastic team is also al-so toppling over with wins in their meets. With only one loss the girls are going region. Competing will be Shauna Adamson, Tammy Birrell, Kris Carroll, Paige Goodin, Lisa Thomas, Vernell Peterson and Beki Wale, intermediate; in-termediate; Brenda Asay, Chris Chandler, Bonnie Green, Christy Janke, Holly Heslington, Sharon Lane, Karole Moyes and Mindy Ortega, Or-tega, beginner. Coach Terri Kanagoe says "I think that we will be able to take region if we can win Davis, they are our only real competition." Good luck girls. OUR outstanding jazz band also rated high in its competition. compe-tition. Taking fifth place out of 22 bands, the Cats traveled to Reno, Nev. this last week. They competed in Division 2A against our surrounding Western Wes-tern States that have been together for 2 or 3 years. With the Cats Jazz band only being formed for a mere six months, they proudly brought home two superior and one excellent rating. This article has only briefly told of the might Cat's victorious vic-torious year in all competitive areas in school and is still looking forward to an even better year in '79.
