Show CELEBRATES GOLDEN1 One Hundred Seventy Descendants Descend-ants Gather to Honor Bivn-kerviile Bivn-kerviile Patriarch. Thomas Lsavitt, Sr., pioneer of southern Nevada and a resident cf Bunkcrvills fcr over fifty years, celebrated his golden wedding anniversary an-niversary at his home there Tuesday. Tues-day. Approximately 170 descendants, descend-ants, children, grandchildren and great-grand children were present to honor the aged patriarch cf the family. .Mr. Leavitt came to Bunkerville in 1878, driving the first team that ever came into the Virgin valley and has been one of the guiding spirits of the community ever since. He has never ceased to be the head of his family, directing di-recting to a large degree the physical, phy-sical, mental and moral progress of his descendants. During the days of polygamy Mr. Leavitt married two wives, and this marriage was one of the few which really followed the ideals as proclaimed by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. The two wives, Luella and Ada. have always been close friends and companions, and to outward appearances, at least, there has been no difference in the kindness and devotion shown these two women by Mr. Leavitt. The two women have lived near each oih-er oih-er during all these years. Each had eleven children, and the children chil-dren of one called the other Aunt Luella or Aunt Ada as the case might be. Although nearly four score years, Mr. Leavitt keeps pace with seme of the younger members of his family. He can work in the fields with the best of them, and no dance in that community is completed without an exhibition of solo dancing by Thomas Leavitt, Leav-itt, Sr. |
