Show INVOLUNTARY VEAL. A citizen of the Third ward, a few days ago, chased a number of calves out of his lucerne, past the premises of a neighbor. This neighbor had a calf staked out in the street, and as the others surrounded it the irate owner of lucerne threw a hatchet promiscuously amongst the veal. Instead of striking a transgressing calf, the missile struck the infantile bovine that was tied up. Dissolution subsequently supervened, and the owner of the killed calf sought redress in the police court. The delinquent hatchet thrower, as should always be done in hatchet cases, after the example of the immortal G. W., admitted the facts of the affair and was fined $8 and costs. |
